Alexander Hamilton
Alexander Hamilton was born in January 11, 1755 on the West Indies island of Nevis (an island held by the British), the illegitimate child of James Hamilton and Rachel Faucett Lavien. Rachel died in 1768. At twelve, Alexander became a clerk and apprentice at a counting house. At fifteen, he was left in charge of the business. The Royal Danish-American Gazette published Hamilton's description of a hurricane on August 30th, 1772, spurring his family and friends to provide the means for Hamilton to be educated. Alexander went to a grammar school in Elizabethtown, New Jersey and then studied at King's College (now Columbia) in 1774, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree in only one year. "A feeble executive implies a feeble execution of the government. A feeble execution is but another phrase for a bad execution; and a government ill executed, whatever may be its theory, must be, in practice, a bad government." (Alexander Hamilton, Federalist No. 69

, revolutionary, politician, and statesman. Hamilton, who fought in the American Revolution as an aide-de-camp to George Washington, was a driving figure in the Federalist movement and the first secretary of the treasury. In his public and private life he combined nationalist commitment, elitist politics, and a vision of dynamic capitalist development. Born in the West Indies, Hamilton moved to the mainland in 1772 and entered King's College (now Columbia University) the following year. By 1774 he was speaking at public meetings and writing revolutionary essays, and in 1776 he became a captain of artillery. After taking part in the Battle of Long Island and the retreat from New York City, he joined Washington's staff in 1777, where he remained until February 1781. He commanded a battery of artillery at the Battle of Yorktown. In 1780 he married Elizabeth Schuyler, daughter of the major general and Hudson Valley landlord Philip Schuyler. He was already close to the Livingston family, and the marriage cemented his social position and his political, elitist point of view. He argued throughout the 1780s for strengthening the national government in The Continentalist essays, the two

At Long Last, Final COBRA Notice Rules Issued They've been imminent for months. Finally, the Department of Labor (DOL) has issued final notice rules under the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA). Employers' obligations won't kick in until the first day of the next plan year that starts after November 26, 2004. In the interim, the DOL says it will consider employers to be in good faith compliance if they abide by notice requirements in last year's proposed regulations. AHI will be presenting an audio conference in the near future on the impact of these final regs, as well as other issues that cause employers confusion when administering COBRA. Biography of hamilton as a revolutionary figure.
http://www.lambda.net/~maximum/hamilton.html
Alexander Hamilton the Revolutionary Alexander Hamilton was born on January 11, 1755 (or 1757 by some accounts) in Charleston on the West Indies island of Nevis. He was born out of wedlock to Rachel Faucitt Lavien and James Hamilton, who abandoned the family in 1765. A local clergyman raised funds to send Alexander away to school in 1773. He entered Kings College (now known as Columbia University) in 1774. In the Revolutionary War he distinguished himself in the eyes of General Washington who made him one of his six aides-de-camp (secretaries) in 1777, and rode beside him in the battles at Brandywine, Germantown, and Monmouth. Hamilton married Elizabeth Schuyler in 1780, with whom he had eight children. Although this incredible man has been studied and written about as much as any American statesman, historians often pass over any mention of Hamilton's expression of intense love for his male comrades.
Alexander Hamilton and George Washington
Alexander Hamilton's election to the first Continental Congress led him to a number of prominent assignments in building the new nation. He was a driving force in the ratification of the U. S. Constitution, and was the only New York delegate to sign the document. On June 18, 1787, he gave an address in which he outlined a comprehensive plan for the national government. He co-authored the Federalists papers with John Jay and James Madison under the pseudonym Publius. "I'm sorry you went away. I wish you were back."

Biography of Alexander Hamilton
This principal architect of the Federalist Papers is exceptional and enigmatic among figures of the revolutionary period. Belatedly and only grudgingly admitted to the canon of great American thinkers, Hamilton's importance as early nationalist, leading exponent of Federalism, and political and financial visionary in the critical post-revolutionary years only fully came to light in the mid-twentieth century, as scholars eyeing the financial and administrative histories of the early United States began to reconsider his achievements. He is best remembered as an outspoken proponent of strong central government and for his authorship of the Federalist Papers, but his many other achievements and characteristics make him a difficult figure to grasp. He was a brilliant, influential, and well-respected patriot, but he was also a fiercely ambitious self-promoter and opportunist, criticized for his arrogance as much as he was admired for his intellect and drive. In spite of his inability to effect much of an influence at Philadelphia, Hamilton nevertheless became the Constitution's most vocal supporter in New York during the ratification debates. Even though the document probably fell short of his desires, he spared no effort in promoting it during a critical period in arguably the most critical state. The primary means by which he did this was of course the publication of the Federalist Papers. Exactly how many of the anonymous letters comprising this work were written by Hamilton is in dispute, but it appears he wrote at least 51 of the 85 total tracts. The essays were less useful convincing voters directly of the Constitution's necessity, but they became a staple for public debaters in Virginia and New York. They clearly helped enhance the force of Federalist arguments in the key debates, bargains, and negotiations leading up to ratification.

Scottish Philosophy in the 19th Century
    1. The Enlightenment Background
While Scottish philosophy of the 18th century is studied extensively, Scottish philosophy in the 19th century is neglected to the point of being virtually unknown. Francis Hutcheson, David Hume and Thomas Reid and are names familiar to almost all philosophers; Sir William Hamilton, James Frederick Ferrier and Alexander Bain to hardly any. Yet in their day, the names of these philosophers were not only prominent in Scotland, but widely known across Europe. To understand this decline in reputation, it is necessary to see 19th century Scottish philosophy against the background of the century that preceded it. According to George Davie there is an Cast in these terms it is easy to place the two most famous philosophers of the Scottish Enlightenment on either side of the divide. On the side of the first is Hume, whose skeptical conclusions arise from the Berkleyan presupposition asserted in the very first sentence of his
