The Queen was born in London on 21 April 1926, the first child of The Duke and Duchess of York, subsequently King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. Five weeks later she was christened Elizabeth Alexandra Mary in the chapel at Buckingham Palace. The Princess's early years were spent at 145 Piccadilly, the London house taken by her parents shortly after her birth; at White Lodge in Richmond Park; and at the country homes of her grandparents, King George V and Queen Mary, and the Earl and Countess of Strathmore. When she was six years old, her parents took over Royal Lodge in Windsor Great Park as their own country home.

The Hoar Family Samuel Hoar
Samuel Hoar (1778-1856), a native of Lincoln, Massachusetts, and Sarah Sherman (1785-1862) of New Haven, Connecticut married in the fall of 1813 and made their home in Concord, Massachusetts. Both Samuel and Sarah were from distinguished families. Leonard Hoar was President of Harvard College 1672-75. Sarah's father, Roger Sherman, was a signer of both the Declaration of Independence in 1776 and the Constitution in 1783. Such was the prominence and prestige of the Hoars, their children and their grandchildren that they were known during the greater part of the 19th century as the Royal Family of Concord. One of the Hoar sons, Samuel, died in infancy. All five of their other children, Elizabeth Sherman, Ebenezer Rockwood, Sarah Sherman Storer, Edward Sherman and George Frisbie, lived to maturity. Two were widely known. Another was important within Transcendentalist circles.
Samuel and Sarah's was a deeply religious household. The family always attended Sabbath services at the First Parish Church (Unitarian). All of the household, including the hired man and maids, took part in family devotions every morning. Mrs. Hoar read a chapter from the Bible to those seated around her in the dining room. All knelt as Samuel led them in prayer. Upon his death, Thomas Starr King said of Samuel, "Mr. Hoar lived all the beatitudes daily."

I
I thought once how Theocritus had sung
Of the sweet years, the dear and wished for years,
Who each one in a gracious hand appears
To bear a gift for mortals, old or young:
And, as I mused it in his antique tongue,
I saw, in gradual vision through my tears,
The sweet, sad years, the melancholy years,
Those of my own life, who by turns had flung
A shadow across me. Straightway I was 'ware,
So weeping, how a mystic Shape did move
Behind me, and drew me backward by the hair;
And a voice said in mastery, while I strove

Elizabeth and Margaret, daughters of King George VI Speak to British children abroad "I can truthfully say to you all that we children at home are full of cheerfulness and courage." (Great Britain, October 13, 1940) On October 13, 1940, Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret spoke to British children who had been evacuated abroad on life back in England. During the radio address, broadcast from somewhere in a Britain under siege, Princess Elizabeth, the fourteen-year-old heir apparent to the throne, demonstrated bravery and poise beyond her years. By the fall of 1940, the Battle of the Britain had reached its height. The Royal Air Force had not yielded to the German Luftwaffe in the air, so the Nazi leader ordered a massive bombing campaign against London in order to break British morale. Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret, like many children, had been evacuated from the capital, but they remained within the country unlike some other affluent English schoolchildren. Their parentsKing George VI and Queen Elizabethwere also resolved to share the danger with their subjects, and they stayed in bomb-damaged Buckingham Palace even as scores of Germans bombers descended on London nightly. In September, King George almost fell prey to a German bomb, but like other Londoners, his resolve remained unbroken during the German

Reuben George Sr was born July 31 1776 in Virginia, according to family tradition. (The 1810 census for Monroe County, WV may be in error to suggest that he was born about 1765.) Reuben married Ann Handley (born 1764 according to the 1810 census) on March 2 1797 in Greenbriar County, WV. Between 1798 and 1810, Ann and Reuben had at least 6 children: Fannie, Joshua, Reuben, Jane, Enoch, and a daughter who seems to have died in childhood. The George family moved to farm land in western Ohio near Okeana (Butler County) about 1812. Ann died in Ohio in the 1820s. Reuben was already a grandfather when he married Esther Hardin Phillips Fannie George Johnson was born October 5, 1798 in what is now West Virginia, the eldest of Ann and Reuben George's children. The George family moved to Butler County, OH about 1812 when Fannie was a young teenager. In 1818 she married
