Patty's Pitcher/Manhattan/Nina/
Washingtonian/Hooper/Fenwick Shoals
It was a long holiday weekend of sun, fun and great diving off the Surface Interval . Wind, waves and visibility all cooperated and summer is at last in full swing.
Patty Hannon found a pitcher on this wreck when it was discovered, thus the name. We still don't know the actual name of the vessel. She lies in about 105 ft. of sea water, mostly ribs. From about 75 ft. on the anchor rode, 5 distinct ribs were visible in the 30 to 40 ft. visibility. We were hooked very near the anchor and windlass on the wreck and the ribs splayed out from there. Patty's is known as a good lobster wreck and she did cough up a few, but not in the usual numbers. As with the other wrecks this year, the little bugs seem to be in profusion but the big ones are staying well hidden. Richie bagged 1, Capt. Darryl bagged 1, and Darrin Grant bagged 2.
The second dive was the Manhattan , a passenger freight which went down in a collison with the coal schooner, Agnes Manning in 1889 - 14 lost their lives and 11 were saved. She lies in about 88 ft. of water and is known not only as a good bug and spearfishing wreck, but an excellent digging wreck. Darrin put one more bug in his bag, Chris Biddle speared 2 keeper togs, and Pete Kohut speared a tog as well. We were hooked aft of the boilers and happy to see the viz was excellent there as well. Several of us noticed that the bow had been somewhat sanded in, but still accessible for a peek inside. It was very easy to scout the wreck literally from bow to stern and back. Eric and Rochelle Liddell won the prize for coming from the greatest distance. Eric flew his single engine plane in from the state of Wyoming. We'd like to say that he came just to dive but he actually owns a condo in Ocean City.

Opium use in Turkmenistan: a historical perspective By Nina Kerimi, Department of Psychiatry, The Turkmen StateMedical Institute, Ashgabat, Turkmenistan Addiction, Sep 2000, Vol. 95 Issue 9, p1319, 15p
    Abstract
This paper presents a picture of how the patterns of opium use have changed in Turkmenistan over more than 100 years and the relationship between these transformations and formal and informal social controls of drug use.
    >From the late 18th century, when opium use began to become a social problem, informal control weakened. Eventually, in the late 19th century, formal control was introduced, aimed at the prohibition of drug trade and use.
    >From that time, the intended and unintended outcomes of implemented policies led to changes in the demographic patterns of users and the social-medical consequences of opiate use. The anti-drug policies, where criminal prohibition coexisted with strategies aimed at raising the population's general living standards and at providing free access to health care, were effective up to the early 1980s.
New political and social-economic realities in the 1980-90s have radically changed the drug scene in the country, with heroin trade and use as the main concerns. The government's reaction, while following the old paths, has included new elements, based mainly on ideas of national consolidation.

    CHAPTER XIII
I shall always regard you as very dear to me, because our hearts have been turned in the same way. It may not be perhaps that we shall know each other much at first; but I hope the days may come when we shall be much older than we are now, and that then we may meet and be able to talk of what has passed without pain. I do not know why a Jewess and a Christian woman should not be friends. I have sent a few things which may perhaps be of comfort to your father. In pity to me do not refuse them. They are such as one woman should send to another. And I have added a little trifle for your own use. At the present moment you are poor as to money, though so rich in the gifts which make men love. On my knees before you I ask you to accept from my hand what I send, and to think of me as one who would serve you in more things if it were possible. Yours, if you will let me, affectionately, REBECCA. I see when I look at them that the shoes will be too big. Dear Ruth! Dearest Ruth, for saying such dear words! She had done more than Rebecca by the sweetness of the suggestion. If it were really the case that he were unhappy because they had parted from each other in anger, no further forgiveness would be necessary. When Ruth was gone, Nina knew that she had been comforted. To have spoken about her lover was in itself much; and to have spoken about him as she had done seemed almost to have brought him once more near to her. Ruth had declared that Anton was sad, and had suggested to Nina that the cause of his sadness was the same as her own. There could not but be comfort in this. If he really wished to see her, would he not come over to the Kleinseite? There could be no reason why he should not visit the girl he intended to marry, and whom he was longing to see. Of course he had business which must occupy his time. He could not give up every moment to thoughts of love, as she could do. She told herself all this, and once more endeavoured to be comforted.

News page Wrestling women take hold Academy of Richmond County wrestling coach Nina Creech watches Teon Robinson (top) and Isidro Cunningham, wrestlers in the 215-pound weight class, during practice. Creech, who is in her first year as a wrestling coach, took over after the former coach left and the program was in danger of being dropped.
JIM BLAYLOCK/STAFF Richmond Academy senior Brandon Porter remembers the day he found out the Musketeer wrestling team would be coached by a woman. ``I didn't believe it,'' Porter said when he heard the news that Nina Creech, believed to be the first female wrestling coach in the state, would coach the wrestling team this year. ``I thought the guys were just kidding.'' Porter's friends weren't joking. A few weeks later, Creech began her stint as Richmond Academy's wrestling coach. ``I didn't really know what to expect,'' junior Carl Tyson said. ``I was just getting used to coach Galen Phillips.'' Before the season started, Phillips took a job at Burke County High School, and because of a shortage of coaches at ARC, the wrestling team's season was in jeopardy. Creech, who had coached various sports in her 10 seasons at Spirit Creek Middle School, left for ARC earlier this year. She was approached by athletic director Pat Rivers about taking over the wrestling program three weeks into the school year.

    http://www.tcg.org/am_theatre/at_articles/AT_Volume_18/JulAug 01/at7801_ziesler.
Video Stills of TCG Presidents by Galen Films Peter Zeisler began his career as a Broadway stage manager and theatre administrator. With Oliver Rea and Sir Tyrone Guthrie, he founded the Guthrie Theater of Minneapolis, which opened to great fanfare in 1963. Prior to his 23-year stint as executive director of TCG–from 1972 to 1995–he was co-president of the TCG board (with Nina Vance, 1968-71, and then Arvin Brown, 1972). Beginnings I was born in New York City. My grandmother was a concert pianist, and when she’d teach concert tours in Europe, some of the time we went with her. As a boy I used to go to plays by myself. My parents didn’t dissuade me. The only thing my father said was, "For God’s sakes, don’t be a lawyer," because he was one. He didn’t care what I did as long as I wasn’t a lawyer. My mother used to give me a dollar on a Saturday morning, and I would go out for the day. I would spend 25 cents for lunch–which was a Nedick’s hot dog, orange juice and a donut. The subway was a nickel. I would go to Gray’s Drugstore at 43rd Street where they had cut-rate tickets for 55 cents. This was long before the TKTS booth, and I would buy a matinee ticket. I went every Saturday. I was in school plays, but I never studied theatre–I studied economics. Big mistake. That’s what drove me into the arms of theatre. I spent my sophomore year in college, before I went off to the war, at a stock company in Providence, R. I., with a marvelous man named Francis Fergusson, who was head of the drama department at Bennington College. Brilliant man. We ran a winter stock season there.
