Blues. "A new name and I shall continue to exist Your left side is next to mine, no one explains why" (Originally published in 7 Poems by Charles Henri Ford, Starstreams Poetry Series #3, Nepal, 1974.) These were the times when art was re-inventing itself and Charles Henri had a hand on it all. The list of his comrades is overwhelming. Just check out his index! But first we have to warn the newspeak politically-correct reader about the themes and language. He is from the South and those who are offended by his localisms are to be pitied for the language milieu in which they grew up. The book is intellectually ahead, not behind its time. It is a nonpareil document of the intellectual bohemian life. Freshness was the force behind the artistic milieu that relied on spontaneity and lived Pound’s dictum "Make it new." To think otherwise is to fall into the problem of apathy and numbness we have in the Information Age. Again, it fits Pound’s definition of literature "as news that stays news." "Neither is Pavlik’s sometimes expressed idea of me the whole truth: someone who drinks his blood, lives on him, remains young while he grows old."

Ira Cohen Ira Cohen is an "electronic multimedia shaman" who has travelled with those in the Beat Generation, but who remains a less talked-about, universal visionary and solideracross time, space, dimension, and light. His sashays into other cultures have brought us great and sometimes shocking photographs from the "other side". His works with mylar photography brought the word home. He has photographed Jimi Hendrix, Herbert Huncke, and myriad of others in strange twisting colors. He has published people like Gregory Corso and Angus MacLise in his rice-paper presses. A complete artistic accomplishment, bibliography, and biography of Iraas well as articles and artworkis at Big Bridge Magazine . ArtForum
Jan, 2003 by Michael Duncan
IN THIS SUGAR-FREE ERA, what artist has a life more interesting than his art? The death of Charles Henri Ford (1908-2002) puts the capper on a time when precociousness and chutzpah were art forms in themselves. In 1927, on the eve of his nineteenth birthday, Ford wrote in his diary: "In two years I will be famous. In two years I will be famous. In two years I will be famous. In two years I will be famous. In two years I will be famous. In two years I will be famous. This is my oath." Not missing a beat, the poetry-besotted high school dropout started a little magazine out of his small-town Mississippi bedroom, christening it with the hip title Blues: A Magazine of New Rhythms. He announced the first issue just as longtime literary journals The Dial and the Little Review were folding, so even well-known writers like Gertrude Stein and William Carlos Williams answered with submissions. Besides the big names, Ford introduced talents who confirmed his nose for the new: James Farrell, Erskine Caldwell, and fellow oddball teen Paul Bowles.
