    http://home.freeuk.net/oldhamchoral/html/Elijah.htm
A performance of Mendelssohn's "quasi-operatic" choral masterpiece Elijah was the outstanding feature of the 2001/2002 season. With a stunning line up of soloists led by International baritone Andrew Shore in the title role, and orchestral accompaniment provided by The East Lancs Sinfonia, the performance was an stunning success.
    Elijah
Sunday 5th May 2002 7:00p.m. Andrew Shore as Elijah Originally from Oldham, where he attended Counthill School, Andrew Shore studied at Bristol University before pursuing a career in opera at the Royal Northern College of Music and the London Opera Centre. His appearances with the Royal Opera, English National Opera, Opera North and companies throughout the country have made him well-known for his wide ranging characterizations, from such comic roles as Mozart's Papageno to the more seriously dramatic Alberich of 'The Ring' and Berg's Wozzeck. In Europe he has recently appeared at the Paris Opera, as well as Hamburg, Barcelona and Amsterdam, and he will sing Verdi's 'Falstaff' in Berlin next season. In America he appeared last year at the Chicago Lyric Opera and the Santa Fe Festival, where he has been invited back to sing Don Alfonso in 'Cosi fan tutte'. He has just been appearing in 'The Elixir of Love' at English National Opera and is due to return in the autumn for 'The Ring' and 'Barber of Seville'.

    http://users.aol.com/EvanSlaug/elijah.html
Comments welcomed. E-mail to EvanSlaug@aol.com. Elijah Y. [Yingling] Slaughenhoupt Elijah Y. [Yingling] Slaughenhoupt was born in West Freedom, Clarion County, Pennsylvania on April 9, 1839 when his mother Frances (Yingling) Slaughenhoupt was just 16 years old (just about one week before turning 17). It appears that his father Jacob Slaughenhoupt, was also a young teenager being only about 14 years old. The year 1839 was the same year that part of Toby Township, Clarion County, Pennsylvania reorganized into Perry Township, Clarion County, Pennsylvania. By this time, the concept of frame houses, glass windows, and carriages had been introduced into Clarion County. In " The Yingling Genealogy , Elijah Y. [Yingling] Slaughenhoupt is identified as Lige Slaughenhaupt Best; son of Michael and Frances (Yingling Slaughenhoupt) Best, born April 4, 1839 and dying March 22, 1920 at the age of 81. This information conflicts with reference which indicates that Elijah was the only son of Jacob and Frances (Yingling) Slaughenhoupt. The information about Elijah Y. [Yingling] Slaughenhoupt provided to " The Yingling Genealogy " was very likely verbal and possibly based upon the spelling of Lige which if pronounced phonically ( LI GE ) could represent a shortened version of (or a nickname for) Elijah. It is interesting to note that upon marrying Frances (Yingling) Slaughenhoupt, had Michael Best adopted Elijah Y. [Yingling] Slaughenhoupt, the descendants of Elijah Y. [Yingling] Slaughenhoupt might today have the surname of Best.

    60. History Of Pitcher, Chenango County
Among the early settlers were Benjamin and Abel FAIRCHILD, Ebenezer WAKELEY, Jonas HINMAN, Silas BEEBE, George TAYLOR, elijah fenton, Jonathan CHANDLER, Abijah
    http://www.artmakers.com/chenango/history/pitcher.html
    History of Pitcher
PITCHER was formed from German and Lincklaen, February 13, 1827. Mr. FOX was a cooper and kept the first shop of his craft in that part of the place known as Deran, lying in Pitcher. He died in 1861, DORN in 1821; and they, as well as VAN AUGER, died in Pitcher. VAN AUGUR's descendants removed from the town. William BREED lives where he settled. DORN's son Charles lived there till about 1860. Carrie, wife of Luman ELBRIDGE, of Pitcher, is a daughter of the latter. BURGESS put up a log house in what is known as the four-mile wood and raised a large family, only one of whom-Thomas-is now living there. Mrs. Ledyard BAKER and Mrs. P. H. LYON, daughters of Ebenezer FOX, are living in Pitcher and are the only ones now living there. Mrs. L. A. HALL, of Pittsfield, Otsego county, Mary CUMMINGS, of Syracuse, and Sally MURRAY, of Homer, are other daughters of Ebenezer FOX, and all are descendants on their mother's side of Oliver Hazzard PERRY. Among the early settlers were Benjamin and Abel FAIRCHILD, Ebenezer WAKELEY, Jonas HINMAN, Silas BEEBE, George TAYLOR, Elijah FENTON, Jonathan CHANDLER, Abijah RHINES, Gideon PEET, M. MILLARD, Lewis and Philo BLACKMAN and Richard WARNER. Benjamin FAIRCHILD came from Trumbull, Conn., in 1795, and settled at Pitcher village, where he built and kept a tavern in a log house which stood on the site of the hotel in that village. This was the first tavern in the town and was kept by him till within some fifteen years of his death, when he was succeeded by his son Daniel, who kept it till his death. Benjamin soon after built on the same site a frame house which was afterwards removed to the site of Adna WARNER's residence and occupied as a dwelling-house. It was torn down in 1874 to make room for Mr. Warner's residence. In 1829 his son Daniel built the present hotel, which has since been repaired and enlarged.
