Born: 1520 at Lambeth, Surrey
Queen of England Died: 13th February 1542 at Tower Green, London Katherine Howard, fifth Queen of Henry VIII (and cousin of her predecessor, Anne Boleyn ), was the daughter of Lord Edmund Howard and Joyce Culpeper. Her mother died when she was a little girl and Katherine was brought up by her grandmother, the Dowager Duchess of Norfolk, in whose household, at Horsham (Norfolk) and then Lambeth (Surrey), she was very carelessly looked after. Katherine seems to have allowed herself to grow accustomed to acts of impropriety. In the year 1540, she was brought to Court, perhaps with the intention of captivating Henry, by the agency of the Catholic party, then swayed by Bishop Gardiner ; and she was secretly married to the King in the July of that year. Early in August, Henry acknowledged her as Queen. Her conduct in this capacity was light-minded, if not wicked. Before the next year was out, she was having secret interviews with some of her old lovers, one of whom she actually made her secretary. Henry was utterly taken aback when he discovered evidence of this and of the immorality of his wife's past life. When confronted with this evidence, however, Katherine admitted her previous guilt only, denying that she had ever been unfaithful to Henry. She was, attainted of high treason in January 1542 and executed on February 13th.

Save yourself from
cyber creeps

YM SEPTEMBER 2000 / PHOTO: BLEACHER/EVERARD The guy Katie Tarbox met online was smart, funny, kind...and an adult who was convicted of child molestation. Read on for a story of her Net nightmare-and the rules every girl needs to know about safe surfing. BY KATHERINE TARBOX Five years ago, when I was 13, one of my favorite activities was to surf the Net and make new friends. The Web was a welcoming place that made me feel completely comfortable. That is, until I met Mark-a man who tricked me into believing he was 23. We had a six-month online romance, ending when he lured me into a hotel room and molested me. Police later told me he was really 41 and had a history of stalking young girls. Now, at 18, I've written Katie.com to warn other teens about online dangers and to help prevent more crimes. Here, my key tips for safely meeting people on the Web. I learned the hard way-so you won't have to. Web Warning #1
Face the fact that it can happen to you
When I first went online, I'd heard of pedophiles, but I never imagined that a top student like me would be clueless enough to be vulnerable. At the time, many of my friends had boyfriends, and I wanted someone, too. The Web was an easy way to meet people in the privacy of my home. I could be myself and find others who understood me. I'd always felt that the guys in my grade weren't as mature as I was. So when I met Mark, a thoughtful guy who told me he was 23 years old, I was impressed. He used perfect grammar, unlike most people online. And I could talk to him about anything. I never imagined he had bad intentions. That's how I got duped! Sleazes like Mark use all sorts of tricks to convince others they're normal, and they're so smooth that anyone can be a victim, no matter how brainy you are.

http://www.seacoast.com/~walcat/ROWE.htm
Descendants of Sir EVERARD de ROWE Generation No. 1 Sir EVERARD de ROWE was born in England, and died in England. He married in England. Beautiful Devonshire in the southwest of England Is the ancestral home of the Rowes. Here at Lamerton near Plymouth the family were long possessed of a considerable estate which was handed down from generation to generation, evidently since the days of Richard the First. It was in the days of the crusades that the founder of the house received as a token of his bravery in the holy wars the arms since borne by his descendants. The name of Nicholas Rowe, a member of this family, is well known to all students of English literature as that of the first biographer of Shakespeare and translator of Lucan's Pharsalia, he was born in Little Barford, Bedfordshire, England,June 30,1674, and was educated at Westminster school, studied law, became a successful courtier and politician. His edition or Shakespeare prefaced by the famous biography was published in 1700 and was followed by various successful dramatic works. In 1714 he was made poet laureate by George the First to succeed Nahum Tate, but died two years later and was buried in Westminster Abbey. Previous to his appointment as laureate in the reign of Queen Anne he served as under secretary of state to the Duke of Queensbury. Beulah Sanford Osborn France, contributor to "Five Hundred First Families of America," says the Roe family is very ancient and actually takes its name from Rollo. Hrolf the Granger, or Walker) the Viking who conquered Normandy, married a daughter of Charles, King of France and in 911 became the first Duke of Normandy. The "lls" were dropped from Rollo under the softening influence of the French language and "at the time of William the Conqueror, the name became Roo and Roe." Rollo was descended from Scandinavian rulers.

Everard Allen yearning for a revival
By Mark Dawes,
Staff Reporter
Rev. Everard Allen, pastor of the Brown's Town Circuit of Baptist Churches. - Carlington Wilmot /Freelance Photographer "IF I were to die now and go to Heaven, I would greet Jesus and say thanks for saving me, but I can't come here without seeing a revival," so says the Rev. Everard Allen, pastor of the Brown's Town Circuit of Baptist churches. "From what I have read in Scripture and what has happened through history, I have to see a revival in my country. And if I see that, I will be able to say like Simeon (Luke 2:29-31) 'Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word: For mine eyes have seen thy salvation ...' the renowned clergyman said. The Rev. Mr. Allen, 58, who is widely respected for his skills at expository preaching and his passionate oratory, has been the pastor of the four-church (Brown's Town, Mt. Olivet, Lime Tree Gardens, St. John's) Brown's Town Baptist Circuit since 1972.

92. Mind/Sigh Jerry Everard's Personal Site: Identifying Australia In Postmodern Tim
(c) Jerry everard 1994. Jerry everard is the author of the book Virtual StatesInternet, Globalisation and Inequality published by Routledge UK.
http://www.anu.edu.au/english/jems/lb/academicpapers/identifying.html
Identifying Australia in Postmodern Times:
(c) Jerry Everard 1994 1. Identifying Australia The title of this book, 'Identifying Australia in Postmodern Times' is somewhat like issuing a writ of Habeas Corpus. It is a challenge, addressed at once to the writers of these papers, and to you, the reader. The writ has been issued and it will not be taken back. The writ asks the recipient to 'produce the body', or justify its detention, presumably in its absence. Let me suspend the thing-ness of Australia for a moment. To signal this, I shall speak of Australia as that thing that emerges from those practices that invoke it. I include this deletion for the same reason that Derrida presents1, namely; that the word is written because it is necessary, but crossed out because it is inaccurate. This is a practical, if shorthand way to express the difficulties presented by taking at face value the modernist fictions of the presence of what are essentially discursive objects, such as states. That the word 'identifying' is in the present tense implies that the process is continuous. The fact of history shows that to be the case. Like the almost proverbial shit, it happens. Like the biological metaphor, it happens as a by-product of a process. Without the process there would be nothing to sustain it, and it would no longer be in production. Australia; you're standing in it. Let me address this another way. Policymakers articulate Australia ('state' the State) in various but fairly specific ways. The formation known as 'Australia' is, first and foremost a discursive formation. When you look at what policymakers do, it comes down to talking and writing things down. They also engage, on occasion, in other signifying practices, such as ministerial visits to other, similarly constituted states, or they send gunboats to provide a tangible 'signal', in political parlance. All of these are signifying practices, without which Australia as a particular cultural practice would cease to exist. Some states have recently experienced, or are in the process of experiencing this; for example, the successors to the former Yugoslavia, or the former Soviet Union, or the former East Germany. Few people these days speak of Prussia, Bohemia or Transylvania. States are dynamic entities that exist as a product - one could even say as a by-product of their constitutive practices.
