Harlan Ellison
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Harlan Jay Ellison (born May 27 Cleveland, Ohio ) is a prolific speculative fiction writer of short stories, novellas, and criticism. His work is influenced by a number of literary genres, especially science fiction, fantasy, horror, and psychological drama. Ellison left home in his youth and became a drifter, working various jobs. He briefly attended Ohio State University. In the mid 1950's, he began to sell science fiction stories to pulp magazines . He was drafted into the army and served 1957 to 1959. Afterward, he briefly edited Rogue magazine. He subsequently began to sell scripts to television and publish short pieces, fiction and nonfiction, in various publications. He moved to California in 1962. Ellison has written for several science fiction television series , including the original Outer Limits series, the original Star Trek series, and the revival of The Twilight Zone . He has received many awards for both his fiction and television work. He served as creative consultant to the science fiction TV series The Twilight Zone (1980s version) and Babylon 5 The screenplay for his projected television series The Starlost was given a Writers Guild Award , though the actual series was so altered by the producers that Ellison had his name removed from the credits.

Rezension
(Petra) Bewertung:

Harlan Ellison Comic Book Bibliography, Version 3.1, 6/95
This is meant to be an attempt at compiling Comic Book material either written by or adapted from the work of Harlan Ellison, as well as other Comic Book related Ellison-paraphernalia. This is a working document, as you can see it is already version 3.1, that has been in existence for over a year now. It is incomplete, and in some cases I have not actually physically confirmed details of an item. If you have any questions, comments, corrections or additions please do not hesitate to contact me. Also, let me know if you download this, reprint it elsewhere, or anything. I would be quite interested in anything you have to say about it.

38. The Starlost
Some thoughts on the harlan ellison series.
http://www.jumptheshark.com/s/starlost.htm
The Starlost First Show Last Show Genre Sci Fi Network SYN Slot Day Various Slot Time Various Jumped The Shark when... Votes Day One Never Jumped After the opening Other Thoughts:
  • I've gotta admire the patience of the above poster. Sheesh, what a BORING show this was! The acting wasn't wooden or even leaden but virtually comatose- they might as well have hired lithium addicts! The ONLY vaguely interesting part of this entire snoozefest was the opening in which they did a slow pan of the elaborate model of the giant spaceship and narrated the series's concept! It had been four years since 'Star Trek' had been cancelled and us sci-fi fans were DESPERATE for something new on TV - but ,for me (and virtually everyone else I've talked to who somehow remembered the show), even the desperation in slacking sci-fi thirst wasn't enough to prevent the narcolepsy this show brought on! What a ripoff piece of junk this was...bad writing, bad acting, bad sets, all brought to you on crappy videotape. Plus, does anyone remember when they were promoting this show by using clips from the film Silent Running? As a Canadian, I am embarrassed to say that this big steaming pile of dung was made in Canada. The Starlost was a Canadian attempt at producing science fiction which unfortunately suffered the great Canadian TV flawcheap ass budget. I remember watching this piece of crap as a child and wondering where the hell did they get that much Styrofoam for the sets? Not only were the actors as stiff as the sets, but the writing was absolutely horrid"Radiation Virus" WTF? The only redeeming qualities were the guest stars, William "Hammy" Shatner and Walter Koenig, and the guy who played the weird ass computer (similar in function to the MS Paperclip) with the weirdest annunciation I have ever heard. I think this show would have been better if they casted TMA-1 (the monolith from 2001) instead of Keir Dulla as the main character because the monolith would have show a lot more emotion than Keir.

The grand old man of science fiction and fantasy chats about his lust for spicy food, the genius of Majipoor, and living with Harlan Ellison. A re you currently writing full time now, or are you fitting in the odd day-job for variety? I've been a full-time writer since 1955. Have never had a day job, or, for that matter, any sort of job at all. Writing has been my sole means of livelihood. When and why did you begin writing? When did you first consider yourself a writer? I began writing stories when I was about seven, mainly imitations of things I had been reading. I got more serious about writing as a career when I was twelve or thirteen. It seemed obvious to me that I had a gift for it and I was fairly sure I could succeed at making it my profession, this by the time I was nineteen. How has becoming a published author impacted your lifestyle?
