Welcome to The Book of Bob! Things Have Changed, Indeed!
Here is a (nearly) complete archive of Bob Dylan's song lyrics. Be sure to have a look at Bob's Written Word to view Liner Notes, Poems, Letters, and more! A word from me: If you should see any song lyrics that don't look quite right, or any links that don't work, please let me know . But as always, please be sure to read A Note from Jim Roemer before sending email. Thanks! A couple of comments:
  • The "Frisk Bob!" search feature of this site has been restored and is now working properly. Sorry for the inconvenience!
  • I have come across one of the best interviews with Bob that I have seen. This was published on the front page of the April 4th, 2004 Los Angeles Times. I would strongly encourage you to have a look. Bob is as direct and forthcoming with his responses as I do believe he is capable of. Have a look: Rock's enigmatic poet opens a long-private door (Source: The Los Angeles Times)

The grandchild of Jewish-Russian immigrants, Dylan was born Robert Allen Zimmerman, on May 24, 1941, in Duluth, Minnesota, where his father, Abe, worked for the Standard Oil Company. In 1947, the Zimmerman family moved to the small town of Hibbing, where an unexceptional childhood did little to hint at the brilliance to come. Robert started writing poems around the age of ten, and taught himself rudimentary piano and guitar in his early teens.
(Bob Dylan's childhood home in Hibbing,
Minnesota Click on image for other early Dylan photos ) Falling under the spell of Elvis Presley Jerry Lee Lewis , and other early rock stars,he started forming his own bands, including the Golden Chords and Elston Gunn and His Rock Boppers. According to the 1959 Hibbing high school yearbook, his goal was "to join Little Richard The young Zimmerman left Hibbing for Minneapolis and the University of Minnesota in the fall of 1959. The sights and sounds of the big city opened new vistas for him, and he began to trace contemporary rock and roll back to its roots, listening to the work of country, rock, and folk pioneers like Hank Williams Robert Johnson , and Woody Guthrie

He was the change itself. The snake and the hurricane. And you do know that. If you've been listening only in passing, you know, among other things, that the answer's blowin' in the wind, the times they are achangin', everybody must get stoned, they're selling postcards of the hanging, and that to live outside the law you must be honest. Later, listening more closely, you found out that we're goin' all the way till the wheels fall off and burn, that dignity's never been photographed, and that no one plays the blues like Blind Willie McTell.
