Pencil Drawings During 2002, Professor Amstel spent some time around the Oegstgeest district of Leiden. There is some interesting architecture in Oegstgeest. Professor Amstel captured some of it in his pencil drawings. The kasteel in Endegeest dates from the 13th Century. Finally a study in coloured pencil, drawn in Erik's garden. The study was used to make the acrylic painting below. Acrylics Late during the summer of 2002 Professor Amstel discovered sunflowers. It is no accident that Professor Amstel had been reading some books on Van Gogh. I made several studies of sunflowers, but you only get to see one here. The original is 65cm x 50 cm. Fruit is not Professor Amstel's favourite topic for painting, but he had to have a try. Erik's Garden was produced in Acrylics on paper, from a coloured pencil drawing some weeks before. The garden contained sweet peas, marrows, lavender and many other plants in a random fashion. | |
