Dunn Alert me when new Linda J. Dunn titles are added What's this? Bio: I was born in Greenfield, Indiana in 1952 (yes, I'm giving away my age) eight years behind my closest sister and ten years behind my eldest sister. To say that the arrival of a third girl was disappointing is an understatement. My father was the only son of an only son. I have dim memories of being a talkative, happy child until I contracted Scarlet Fever at age 3 andprobably as a result of a reaction to streptomycinlost about a third of my hearing. At age eighteen, I married the only boy who ever expressed any interest in me while I was in high school. It would not be fair to list his name or mention details about him because my life quickly degenerated into one of those sad tales of domestic violence that I prefer not to discuss. It's ancient history and I prefer to focus on the positive aspects of life rather than keep looking back and kicking myself for the things I should have done and would have done if I knew then what I know now. A few years and two children later, my husband left and life improved greatly. It wasn't easy raising two kids without financial support while dealing with a hostile ex-husband, but I had a supportive family and I'll always be grateful to my parents for taking the children into their home every weekend so I could finish my bachelor's degree in 1989.

http://www.tarotpassages.com/dunn.htm
The Vertigo Tarot Deck Review by Linda Dunn The Vertigo Tarot, based on the comic books published under the Vertigo
imprint by DC comics, is one of the most visually stunning decks of
recent years. The artwork is a blend of painting, photo-montage, and
even found objects - those familiar with deck artist Dave McKean's much
lauded work on the Sandman comic covers will immediately recognize his distinctive style.
The deck is not limited by the fact that it is a theme deck; familiarity
with the Vertigo characters who populate the major arcana certainly adds
to the enjoyment of using the cards, but it is not mandatory, especially
due to Rachel Pollack's outstanding hardcover text which accompanies the
deck. There is, additionally, a "Vertigo spread" created by Pollack for
the deck that is not only fun but very enlightening for fans of the comics. Since many of these characters are archetypes to begin with, this additional frame of reference can help bring new interpretation to the cards.

Dream the Moon
By Linda J. Dunn
A cloud of lint hovered over the seamstresses and their sewing machines like a multicolored fog over a river. To the right of each worker rose a bank of shirt pieces, stacked on wobbly pine shelving units. On the left bank were wheeled bins, where the seamstresses tossed their finished work. When a bin was full, an expediter rolled it away, a tugboat captain steering a vessel across the channel to the banks of the next assembly line, where the collars would be attached to the shirts. Sharon Wilson sat at a serger sewing machine in the middle of the first river of workers, working on a batch of red shirts and sending red lint swirling up to join the cloud hovering above her, and never slowing, never stopping, because time was money and money was important. Sharon was joining shoulder seams today. Yesterday she had hemmed, and tomorrow she might be back in the screen printing section, printing the popular image of the moon's first lunar base on hundreds of shirt fronts. She paused occasionally to brush material into the table's fist-sized hole, so the raw edges would slide down the chute's opening into the box beside her left leg. Sometimes she waved her hand above her head and the expediter hurried over with more work or a few more cones of thread to replace the empties. But Sharon never slowed. She couldn't afford to. A broken thread meant stopping work to rethread the needle and she could sew a dozen shirts in the time it took for that effort. Piecework employees don't watch the clock; they count their pieces. Sharon coughed the dry, hacking cough of someone who has spent too much time in a lint-filled factory and not enough time outside breathing fresh air; but she never once paused to cover her mouth, even when her body jerked with coughing spasms. Time was money and she was afraid to lose even a moment's production.

Dunn County, Wisconsin was created out of a portion of Chippewa County in 1854, with the first county seat at Dunnville (earlier called Colburn's Landing). The county was named for Charles Dunn, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Wisconsin Territory. Dunn had been appointed by Pres. Andrew Jackson in 1835. Lumbering was an important industry in the development of Dunn County. The earliest lumbering operations were started in 1822 by fur traders Lockwood and Rollette who erected a mill at the confluence of Wilson Creek and the Red Cedar River, at what is the present site of Menomonie. A second mill was built in Menomonie in 1830 and another at Gilbert Creek in 1831. A settlement was established on the river near Dunnville about 1829-30. According to H.C. Cooper, Jr., "Most of the pioneer settlers in Dunn County were attracted to this region by the opportunities for steady employment in the lumber industry, though there were a few, even in the early (18)60's, who took homesteads and began to build up farms." This web site is here to assist you in researching your Dunn County ancestors.

March 1, 2001, Miami, Florida On Thursday, six women will be honored at a reception at the Historical Museum of Southern Florida as Women of Impact, an annual award that kicks off Women's History Month. One of those women is our own Linda Dunn-Brown. As quoted from the Miami Herald: Brown loved being a teacher. But when the opportunity came, she was willing to 'stretch' and became an administrator. She has also been willing to take on daunting volunteer tasks, helping to bring Inn Transition, a battered women's shelter, to south Dade after Hurricane Andrew. Women, she says, have to continue to reach out to make a difference. "I would like women to understand the power they have within themselves, which I think is immense, and the ability to use it for good," she said. Today, Brown is executive director or of the Bureau of Community Services for the Miami-Dade Public Schools, PRESIDENT OF THE YOUTH CRIME WATCH OF FLORIDA, and president-elect of the Junior Orange Bowl Committee. Linda, all of us at YCWA and YCWF wish you congratulations on this wonderful honor.

News School Shootings Show Generational Communication Gap March 6, 2001, Miami, Florida "That's going to be haunting me for a long time…it hurts, because I could've maybe done something about it," Chris Reynolds on not reporting threats before the shootings in Santana High School. According to a US Secret Service study on shootings in schools, three fourths of the cases demonstrated that the assailant had told at least one other person in advance, and half had told more than one person. It appears this pattern of not reporting guns in school continues. The accounts coming out of the tragic shooting at Santana High School in Santee, CA indicate that at least three youths knew something about the danger in advance. "We have not yet learned all the lessons of Columbine and the other school shootings," were the comments of Terry Modglin, Executive Director of Youth Crime Watch of America, concerning the shooting near San Diego on Monday, March 5. The need to overcome the generation communication gap is key. "The difference between the schools where shootings have taken place and where they have been prevented is that students - not administrators or faculty - reported the danger and the adults took action," said Modglin.
