Legislative Column
MONTPELIER—When Lt. Gov. Brian Dubie gavels the Vermont Senate to order, he does so with a POW! This is no meek and mild notice to Senators that the business of the day is about to get underway. No, this is an authoritative, no nonsense approach to the job. The POW! has the audible power of an F16 fighter jet taking off from Burlington International Airport, which should come as no surprise since Colonel/Lt.Gov. Dubie is, or was, an F16 fighter jockey. He was promoted to colonel in the Air Force Reserves just recently and passes his free non-political time on most weekends by flying passenger jets around the country as an American Airlines captain. He finds it a good way to ease off the stress of the Senate "You really relax at 50,000 feet," he says.

So, have you been reading some OLD POETRY? (tsk tsk...shame on you! What are you waiting for?)
    oldpoetry.com/

This week, I decided to use no chosen theme to decide on old poetry to feature. At Oldpoetry, you can also use the "random" tab at the top of the page to explore poetry. It can be a really fun way to find some new poets you may have never read before. I clicked the random link five times, and this is what I got:

poetry of the masters Please try one of those below. These are good places to begin. All amazing, wonderful poets. This is not meant to be a comprehensive list of the greatest poets or even good poets. They are only those poets whom I, singularly, love. They are the artists closest to my heart. Perhaps closer than any musician, artist, or novelist will ever be. James Wright Federico García Lorca Seamus Heaney (1939-present) Gary Snyder (1930-present) Robert Hass (1941-present) Norman Dubie (1945-present) Galway Kinnell (1927-present) Jim Harrison (1937-present)
