What a Wop.
Diane must have been the cousin of a mafia don. How else could she get published? She should have written lesbian books, then she would have had an audience.
Anyway, this Anis Nin of the Beats just hung around and fucked. Couldn't write worth a damn. But who cares. It's great to see girls in the fifties write pornography. I would fuck her. We're not sure if she's still alive, but I would have fucked the girl in the photograph. by McCutcheon

ALLEN GINSBERG Diane di Prima, one of the most prominent poets of the Beat generation, is the author of such books as Memoirs of a Beatnik and Recollections of My Life as a Woman (Viking, 2001), which chronicles her years as a young writer, single mother, and participant in the New York scene with Amiri Baraka, Allen Ginsberg, and others. Critic Gretchen Munroe says di Prima "charts the shifting streams of America's fringe culture." She has published 32 books, contributed to more than 300 publications worldwide, and has had her work translated into more than 13 languages. Di Prima is one of the cofounders of the San Francisco Institute of Magickal and Healing Arts (SIMHA), where she taught Western spiritual traditions from 1983-1992.

BIOGRAPHICAL NOTES Diane di Prima, feminist writer, poet, and teacher, was born in Brooklyn, New York, on August 6, 1934. Di Prima is the eldest child and only daughter of Francis and Emma di Prima, who were college-educated, middle-class Italian-Americans. Di Prima has two younger brothers, Frank (born November 6, 1937) and Richard (born September 19, 1941) who followed more traditional career paths, becoming an attorney and the owner of an educational electronics firm, respectively. Diane di Prima graduated from the college preparatory program at Hunter College High School, an elite public school for girls in New York City, where she worked on the editorial board of the school paper, Scribimus . She then attended Swarthmore College for two years. She left college in 1953 to live in Manhattan with her lovers and to write full-time. While living in Greenwich Village, di Prima became part of the Bohemian intellectual culture: well-educated, white, middle-class individuals who rejected middle-class values, choosing a rebellious life-style which included sexual freedom and the use of drugs. Di Prima began a correspondence with the poet Ezra Pound, visiting him daily for two weeks in 1955 at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, in Washington, D.C., where he was hospitalized.

She began writing at the age of seven, and made the decision to live her life as a poet at the age of fourteen. She lived in Manhattan for many years, and is often considered the most important woman writer of the Beat movement. Together with Amiri Baraka she edited The Floating Bear, a literary newsletter. In 1965 she moved to upstate New York where she participated in Timothy Leary's psychedelic community at Millbrook. Later she lived and worked in northern California, where she took part in the political activities of the Diggers, lived in a late-sixties' commune, studied Zen Buddhism, Sanskrit and alchemy, and raised her five children. From 1980 to 1986 she taught hermetic and esoteric traditions in poetry in a short-lived but significant program at New College of California. Her work has been translated into over twenty languages. She now lives and works in San Francisco , where she is one of the co-founders and teachers of the San Francisco Institute of Magical and Healing Arts. Her current works in progress include 'Not Quite Buffalo Stew', a satire of California life, an autobiographical memoir called 'Recollections of My Life as a Woman', and a book on Shelley as magician/poet.
