Strange heaven
FIC / c823 C652s An amazing blend of hilarity and sadness are found together in this novel about a teenage mother who's just given up her first newborn baby for adoption and subsequently suffers from depression. Home, even if dysfunctional, is a better place to be than the hospital. Coney, Mike A tomcat called Sabrina FIC / c823 C747t An uproarious tale of "hard times" in the Pacific Northwest. Overview: This course covers the history of what is now the United States , from the colonial era to Reconstruction. We will focus on interactions among people who differed in race, ethnicity, culture, religion, goals, or ideas, but all of whom contributed to the creation of the United States . These include interactions between Native Americans and Europeans; African-Americans and Europeans; Spanish, French, and English colonists; the elite and the lower classes; politicians, voters, and the disenfranchised; men and women; and Northerners, Southerners, and Westerners. In effect, we will trace the social, political, economic, cultural, and regional history of American settlement, government, and identity to 1877. A survey of modern America
In the twentieth-century America grew fully modern. Scientist's discoveries challenged thinking on humankind's place in the universe. Inventors applied their genius to technological innovation. Newfangled men tried to tame newfangled forces in a capitalist economy. The US was an increasingly powerful nation, with its influence stretching beyond its continental boundaries. Demographic change and urbanization recast where most people lived. Did the advent of modernity foster personal betterment in American life? We will reflect on whether America's diverse communities–native born, immigrant, and ethnic–found fulfillment in a common vision of modernity. We will trace how American communities fared through Faragher et al.
