Dreams always have a price, and the most audacious dreams often cost more than most can bear to give. But there are some among us who are willing to pay that price when it comes due. We call them heroes. The crew of the Columbia were heroes. They didn't expect to die in service of the dream, but they knew the possibilities, and flew anyway. To them, the risk was worth the prize, and the best way we could honor them would be to keep reaching for that prize. "May their souls and all the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God, Rest in Peace." Amen. Like most other kids, I grew up wanting to be an astronaut. I wanted to go to the moon, Mars, or Jupiter. Bad eyes and epilepsy ended that dream for me, but I remained an avid space junky. I grew up on Isaac Asimov, and Lester Del Ray, Ray Bradbury, and of course, Robert Heinlein. My heroes were Dr. McCoy and Will Robinson. Now I'm older, and my dreams of space are behind me. I still follow the Shuttle program and the ISS, and I see my kids picking up where I left off. My son wants to be an astrophysicist, and working on the ISS is not out of the question for him. For his sake, and for all the other kids who share in the dream, I hope we continue to reach for the stars.

El jazz es el fruto del encuentro de la tradición musical africana y la europea, en un escenario preciso, Estados Unidos, a raíz de la llegada de los esclavos negros desde principios del siglo XVII. En el siglo XIX, la religión cristiana (sobre todo las iglesias baptista y metodista) fue impuesta a muchos de estos esclavos, que encontraron en los textos del Antiguo Testamento numerosas analogías aplicables a su propia situación y en las corales una forma de expresión musical. Con el paso del tiempo esos salmos teñidos de tradición africana darían lugar a lo que se conoce como GOSPELL , canto religioso que adopta formas diversas: la prédica del pastor, los grupos vocales y gran número de solistas especialmente femeninas.
