Kathryn Cramer M. C. Escher remarked in his essay "The Impossible" that "whoever wants to portray something that does not exist has to obey certain rules." The majority of science fiction stories are not plausible extrapolations upon our current situation, using available information; rather they are Escheresque impossible objects which use the principles of science in much the same way that Escher used rules of geometric symmetry the rules give form to the impossible imaginative content. All sf about the future no matter how rigorously constructed, must build its future from fragments of the past and present; the futures we construct are as much a part of the present as we ourselves are; although they will never really be the future, they can represent it. Sf allows us to understand and experience our past, present, and future, in terms of an imagined future. Like the conventions of perspective in drawing, which allow us to extrapolate railroads from two convergent lines crossed by a lot of parallel line segments, the conventions of sf allow us to imagine a physical world beyond the frame of the scenes described. There has been a persistent view that "hard" sf is somehow the core and center of the sf field; that all other sf orbits around this center; and that the characteristic of this core is a particular attitude toward science and technology. Kathryn Cramer An Historical Overview by David G. Hartwell, Fashion Theorist Kathryn Wins "Most Original" in High School Money is not the answer, nor is seasonable Fashion. Should anyone in Seattle have been taking note in the 1970s, they would have been able to mark the first glimmerings of the advent of a snappy dresser in 1979 at University Prep. That year Junior Kathryn E. Cramer was named "Most Original" dresser for her surprising juxtapositions of clothing in everyday life. This was in opposition to the One Big Dumb Idea, the male winner who merely went to school one day in a chicken suit. Kathryn has described her style as "Annie Hall on acid." At one point her hair was dyed in fine orange and blue stripes. Kathryn dyes hair purple after political defeat Kathryn, then Mrs. Viktor Grabner, became involved in student politics at the University of Washington in the early 1980s. She became moderately invisible and on occasion dressed in suits. This was perhaps the nadir of her creative dressing, which ended immediately after a particularly galling defeat in the race for student body president, when she dyed her hair purple and became alienated. Somewhere in there, though, she took a course in modeling, since she was small and slim and in fact hadn't gained a pound since she was fourteen. This heightened her already acute perception of dress.

Kathryn is the daughter of John Cramer, a physicist whose "Transactional Interpretetation" hypothesis is the only one left intact by the experiment's findings. It has been widely accepted that the rival interpretations of quantum mechanics, e.g., the Copenhagen Interpretation, the Many-Worlds Interpretation, and my father John Cramer's Transactional Interpretation, cannot be distinguished or falsified by experiment, because the experimental predictions come from the formalism that all such interpretations describe. However, the Afshar Experiment demonstrates in an interaction-free way that there is a loophole in this logic: if the interpretation is inconsistent with the formalism, then it can be falsified. In particular, the Afshar Experiment falsifies the Copenhagen Interpretation, which requires the absence of interference in a particle-type measurement. It also falsifies the Many-Worlds Interpretation which tells us to expect no interference between "worlds" that are physically distinguishable, e.g., that correspond to the photon's passage through one pinhole or the other.
