BIO
Born and raised in New York, Mary Higgins Clark is of Irish descent. "The Irish are, by nature, storytellers," says Clark, who considers her Irish heritage an important influence on her writing.
Mary's father died when she was ten. Her mother struggled to bring up Mary and her two brothers. After graduating from high school, Mary went to secretarial school, so she could get a job and help her mother with the family finances. After working for three years in an advertising agency, travel fever seized her. For the year 1949, she was a stewardess on Pan American Airlines' international flights, to see the world. "My run was Europe, Africa and Asia," Mary recalls. "I was in a revolution in Syria and on the last flight into Czechoslovakia before the Iron Curtain went down. I flew for a year and then got married."
She married a neighbor, Warren Clark. Nine years her senior, she had known him since she was 16. Soon after her marriage, she started writing short stories. She sold her first short story to Extension Magazine in 1956 for $100, after six years and forty rejection slips. "I framed that first letter of acceptance," she recalls.

... WHERE ARE THE CHILDREN Mary Higgins Clark BIO Mary Higgins Clark is the author of twenty-one novels of suspense, three collections of short stories, and with her daughter, Carol Higgins Clark, co-author of two Christmas novellas. She is also the author of the forthcoming MT. VERNON LOVE STORY. She lives with her husband in Saddle River, New Jersey. PAST INTERVIEW June 5, 2001 Spring just wouldn't be spring without a new Mary Higgins Clark novel to relish. ON THE STREET WHERE YOU LIVE has just hit the bookstores and is already announced to be #1 on the New York Times Bestseller List - simultaneously with her paperback version of last year's suspense novel, BEFORE I SAY GOOD-BYE. "I have snake-eyes!" said Mary, in this interview with Bookreporter.com's Ann Bruns. Find out her thoughts on reincarnation, tabloid news and more! TRC: In our interview last year, we talked a little about your plans for ON THE STREET WHERE YOU LIVE, and you mentioned you're restoring an 1890s home in the same town where this is set. Were there any experiences during the renovation that have become incorporated into the book? For instance, did you happen to find an attic full of intriguing memorabilia?

Mary Higgins Clark Reveals: "Pan Am was the airline."
Dave Weich
, Powells.com Mary Higgins Clark is the author of twenty bestsellers. Stop for a moment. Consider that. You're thinking, That's twenty more than I have! Clark also graduated summa cum laude from Fordham University at Lincoln Center (with a B.A. in Philosophy) and holds thirteen honorary doctorates. The day we spoke, she'd come to Portland to read from We'll Meet Again , the story of a beautiful young wife convicted of manslaughter. Six years later, freed from prison, Molly asserts her innocence again. Perhaps the HMO her murdered husband founded might hold some clues to the truth surrounding his death. I met the woman also known as "The Queen of Suspense" in the lounge of the Benson Hotel. We sat in big cushy chairs, drinking coffee and talking about the arc of her career, from a young international stewardess to one of the most successful suspense writers in the world.

MARY HIGGINS CLARK , America's "Queen of Suspense," knows the struggles most writers experience while honing their craft. It took six years and forty rejection slips before she sold her first short story for $100. Her first suspense novel, Where Are the Children? , became her first bestseller and is currently in its 75th paperback edition. The book's tremendous success brought Clark sudden wealth and enabled her to finally pursue a college degree. She graduated summa cum laude in 1979 from Fordham University with a B.A. in philosophy. Mary Higgins Clark is the author of 23 runaway bestsellers, with over 50 million copies of her books in print in the U.S. and are also world-wide bestsellers.
Aspire to the Heavens , published in 1969. The book will be reissued this year in a special edition by the preservation organization Historic Mount Vernon, under the new title, Mount Vernon Love Story On the Street Where You Live (April 2001), is the story of a young criminal attorney named Emily Graham who moves from Albany, NY, to Spring Lake, NJ, in order to elude a stalker and begin life afresh after a painful divorce. Emily soon becomes involved in tracking a serial killer who believes he is the reincarnation of a 19th century strangler. The new book, set in the same New Jersey town where Clark recently acquired a Victorian house, spent a number of months this year on the

She started out, like most writers, by selling her works to a magazine. But now, she is a world renowned published author. The point of this article is to take a look at some of this "magician's" earliest works and some of the more recent masterpieces. One of the first books that I read was A Cry In The Night. This book is about a fraudulent artist who marries a former art studio employee. Within the year, she becomes a wealthy, caring wife and mother. But also within that year's time, Jenny McPartland is accused of her ex-husband Kevin's murder. Did she do it, or was it all part of a devious plan sparked by her new husband, Erich Krueger? You'll have to read t find out. Another book that I've read and truly love is Moonlight Becomes You . In this story, a young woman goes to a party and is reunited with her stepmother. But when she's murdered, her daughter finds out a secret that no one else will be able to swallow.
