We see this same problem at the school where I help out. The school itself is almost all Mac, and the workstations run pretty well. But the school district decrees that every school run NT servers and Cisco switches, and we are continually battling Cisco switch hell. Modern macs with 10/100 don't auto-negotiate the same way as cisco. Its annoying but sorts itself out shortly after booting, and the users have to mount their server by the chooser or an alias instead of the more convenient auto-mount on boot. Our district in their infinite lack of wisdom solved this problem. While the fiber backbones between buildings are 100BaseF and all the switches (Cisco) are connected together with 100BaseT, all the ports for machines are 10BaseT, including the servers. It's like having a super highway through town with dirt roads for feeders. And most of our machines now are iMacs with 10/100. We even have 10/100 switches connecting the machines in the lab together but they are choked to 10BaseT at the main switches. We do run Apple Servers except for a proxy server and some at the district. It's the NTs at the district we've had the most trouble with.
