AGATHA CHRISTIE Author Birth Name: Agatha May Clarissa Miller From the 1920s until the 1970s Agatha Christie was the world's most popular mystery author, reportedly selling more than one billion books worldwide. While other mystery authors like Raymond Chandler and Dashiell Hammett came and went, Christie continued to turn out gentle stories of murder and detection in polite society, sometimes publishing two or three books in a year. Her two most popular detectives, Hercule Poirot and Miss Jane Marple, were featured in 30 and 12 novels, respectively. Dozens of Christie's stories became movies, most notably the star-studded 1974 film Murder on the Orient Express . In 1971 Christie was made a Dame of the British Empire for her contributions to British literature and culture.
Extra credit : Christie's play The Mousetrap has been running continuously in London's theater district since its premiere on November 25, 1952. It is now regarded as history's longest-running play.

Christie wrote more than 70 detective novels under the surname of her first husband, Colonel Archibald Christie. She also published a series of romances and a children's book. '"And now, messieurs et mesdames," said Poirot rapidly, "I will continue with what I was about to say. Understand this, I mean to arrive at the truth. The truth, however ugly in itself, is always curious and beautiful to seeker after it. I am much aged, my powers may not be what they were." Here he clearly expected a contradiction.

The Charge This place is beginning to resemble a mortuary! Opening Statement Peter Ustinov ( Spartacus Quo Vadis? Topkapi ) makes his first appearance as the famous Hercule Poirot in this adaptation of the Agatha Christie novel. Facts of the Case Karnak Moonraker Broadcast News The Guns of Navarone The Pink Panther Murder by Death ), Poirot sifts through the evidence, motives, and conflicting alibis in a race to finger the killer before the Karnak reaches its final destination. The Evidence Death on the Nile is a classic whodunnit in every sense. It follows the conventions of the genre like they were handed down from Mount Sinai. Naturally there is a murder, a group of suspects conveniently contained in a confined space, and a brilliant detective to put all the pieces together. Along the way we discover tantalizing clues that may or may not point to the truth. These clues are doled out slowly, often in half-overheard conversations or in a furtive glance or gesture. Death on the Nile benefits from a romantic, exotic locale to work with; the Nile, along with the famous Egyptian pyramids and other monuments, makes for a far more interesting backdrop than even the most lavish English manor house.

Search all of agatha Christie Agatha Christie (1890-1976) , prolific British author of mystery novels and short stories, is especially famous as the creator of Hercule Poirot, the Belgian detective, and Miss Jane Marple.
Agatha Christie was born in Torquay, in the county of Devon, as the daughter of Frederick Alvah Miller and Clarissa Miller. Her father died when she was a child. Christie was educated at home, where her mother encouraged her to write from a very early age. At sixteen she was sent to school in Paris where she studied singing and piano. In 1914 Christie married Archibald Christie, an officer in the Flying Royal Corps; their daughter, Rosalind, was born in 1919.
Christie's first detective novel, The Mysterious Affair at Styles, introduced Hercule Poirot, the Belgian detective, who appeared in more than 40 books, the last of which was Curtain (1975). Christie's other famous detective, Miss Marple, an elderly spinster, was a typical English character, but while Poirot used logic and rational methods, Marple relied on her feminine sensitivity and empathy to solve crimes. Marple was featured in 17 novels, the first being Murder At The Vicarage (1930) and the last Sleeping Murder (1977). Both Poirot and Marple have been adapted for film and television.
