Byron (no one ever called him George) was born on 22 January 1788, in London. His parents, Catherine Gordon Byron (of the old and violent line of Scottish Gordons) and John Byron, had been hiding in France from their creditors, but Catherine wanted their child born in England, so he was . John stayed in France, living in his sister's house, and died in 1791, possibly a suicide . Catherine took her son to Scotland, where a deformity of his foot soon became evident. Special boots were made and treatments devised, but Byron limped all of hs life. He lived through his reading, being especially fond of Roman history, and dreamed of leading regiments of brave soldiers. When the Wicked Lord died, Byron became, at the tender age of ten, the sixth Lord Byron. Newstead, the ancestral home in England, was an absolute wreck

His past was that of establishement -educated nobleman who was viewed by some in his time and later generations as the embodiment of Romanitc ideals.
Byron himself left his native home of England in a form of self imposed exile after rumors of an incestuous relationship with his half sister. A contradictory past led ultimatley to his death as the Commander of Greek forces in Mesolongion.
In 1812, when the first part of Childe Harold's Pilgrimage was published, the Byronic hero was born. This term would come to mean a young man of stormy emotions who rejects humanity and wanders through life with guilt and weighed down by his sins.
Byron's romantic poetry is some of the most beautiful and significant of its era.

The most notorious Romantic poet and satirist. Byron was famous in his lifetime for his love affairs with women and Mediterranean boys. He created his own cult of personality, the concept of the 'Byronic hero' - a defiant, melancholy young man, brooding on some mysterious, unforgivable in his past. "There's not a joy the world can give that it takes away / When the glow of early thought declines in feeling's dull decay, / 'Tis not on youth's smooth cheek the blush alone, which fades so fast, / But the tender bloom of heart is gone, ere youth itself be past." Byron George Gordon (1788-1824), angielski poeta i dramaturg. Na krótko zatrzyma³ siê w Szwajcarii, potem we W³oszech, gdzie spotka³ ostatni± wielk± mi³o¶æ ¿ycia - Teresê Guiccioli, nacjonalistkê w³osk±.

I stood in Venice on the Bridge of Sighs, A palace and a prison on each hand. I saw from out the wave her structures rise As from the stroke of the enchanter's wand: A thousand years their cloudy wings expand Around me, and a dying Glory smiles O'er the far times, when many a subject land Look'd to the winged Lion's marble piles, Where Venice sat in state, thron'd on her hundred isles!

George Gordon Byron, 6th Baron Byron
George Gordon Noel Byron, 6th Baron Byron , best known as Lord Byron January 22 April 19 - Lord Byron (1803) - The best-known Romantic poet in his own day, Byron was famously described by Lady Caroline Lamb , a former lover who continued to stalk him for many years, as "Mad, bad and dangerous to know". Some surmise that bipolar disorder caused his tempestuous moods. His father was an English aristocrat; his mother was a Scottish one. His father left his mother before he was born. As a result his mother moved back to northeast Scotland shortly after his birth in London and he was raised in Aberdeen, Scotland in straitened circumstances. Notable Poems:
    • Childe Harold The Giaour Prometheus The Corsair Don Juan
From 1801 to 1808, Byron had a Newfoundland named Boatswain. Boatswain is buried at Newstead Abbey , where his monument is larger than Byron's. Byron also had a bear, a fox, monkeys, a parrot, cats, an eagle, a crow, a falcon, peacocks, guinea hens, an Egyptian crane, a badger, geese, and a heron. Byron's reputation has diminished among academics considerably, however, since the early

    George Gordon Byron, Lord Byron
George Byron was born in London, the son of a Scottish heiress descended from James I of Scotland and Captain "Mad Jack" Byron, a profligate who died when Byron was three. In 1798 he succeeded his great-uncle to the barony at Newstead Abbey in Nottinghamshire. He was educated at Aberdeen Grammar School, then Harrow and Cambridge. After university, he set out on the grand tour of Europe, his experiences there greatly influencing his poetic style. In 1815 he married Anne Milbanke, a mathematician, with whom he had a daughter. The marriage was short-lived, however, and they separated the following year, when Byron left England for the Continent, never to return. There he became closely associated with Shelley and his wife and even more closely with Mary Shelley's stepsister, who bore him a daughter. He moved on to Venice where he was feted by the Italians as a revolutionary poet. In 1823 he sailed for Greece to fight in the Greek War for Indepence, dying of rheumatic fever at Missolongi. Passionate, irreverent, and adventurous, Byron captured the romantic spirit of a revolutionary era and his death was mourned by many as much for his life as for his poetry, of which

I'm writing this to specifically respond to the remarks made by another reviewer condemning Byron for forced rhymes, self-conscious commentary, and the lack of a good finish.WARNING: This poem is intended to be funny! Byron delighted in using the jangly sounds of feminine rhymes in the most outlandish fashion possible, and his digressions are what truly make this poem enjoyable; that voice is the center of the poem, not Don Juan's actions. As for the lack of a finish, I think I'll excuse any ...

The fundamental source for this collection of Byron's prose has been The Works of Lord Byron: Letters and Journals , edited by Rowland E. Prothero, 6 vols. (1898-1901). Additional letters are found in Lord Byron's Correspondence, edited by John Murray, 2 vols. (1922). In choosing letters for this internet edition I have been greatly influenced by the admirable, but currently out-of-print one-volume collection by Peter Gunn, Byron: Selected Prose (Penguin 1972), as well as by the less impressive but still useful collection of Leslie Marchand in

He created the concept of the 'Byronic hero' - a defiant, melancholy young man, brooding on some mysterious, unforgivable event in his past. Byron's influence on European poetry, music, novel, opera, and painting has been immense, although the poet was widely condemned on moral grounds by his contemporaries.
George Gordon, Lord Byron, was the son of Captain John Byron, and Catherine Gordon. He was born with a club-foot and became extreme sensitivity about his lameness. Byron spent his early childhood years in poor surroundings in Aberdeen, where he was educated until he was ten. After he inherited the title and property of his great-uncle in 1798, he went on to Dulwich, Harrow, and Cambridge, where he piled up debts and aroused alarm with bisexual love affairs. Staying at Newstead in 1802, he probably first met his half-sister, Augusta Leigh with whom he was later suspected of having an incestuous relationship.
