Edgar Rice Burroughs
Edgar Rice Burroughs was born in 1875, into a wealthy Chicago family, although he later claimed to have spent his childhood in Peking. During his early years, he attended several private schools and served in the military, where he first heard stories of battles with American Indians. He married Emma Hulbert in 1900, and spent the next decade in near-poverty, attempting various careers without success. The turning point for Burroughs came in 1910, when he began writing for pulp magazines. A story called Under the Moons of Mars , which introduced the hero John Carter, was his first professional sale, published in 1912. All of Carter’s adventures were published in book form in 1917 as A Princess of Mars - the series eventually swelled to eleven titles. Burroughs’s other popular series included the Carson of Venus books Pellucidar , and The Land that Time Forgot However, his most stunning success was the Tarzan series, beginning with Tarzan of the Apes in 1912. Burroughs eventually wrote 24 more Tarzan adventures, which were adapted into many films. In order to cover his financial losses, he wrote an average of three novels a year.

An amusing take on the biography of ERB.
http://www.tombtown.com/bios/burrough.htm
EDGAR RICE BURROUGHS A brief note to readers.. In researching the history of Mr. Burroughs, many interesting facts were found; which would have made for a fairly interesting read. However, a different approach was chosen for Mr. Burroughs. We think you will agree that it is the best approach....
An Autobiographical Sketch I am sorry that I have not led a more exciting existence, so that I might offer a more interesting biographical sketch; but I am one of those fellows who has few adventures and always gets to the fire after it is out. I was born in Peking at the time that my father was military advisor to the Empress of China, and lived there, in the Forbidden City, until I was ten years old. An intimate knowledge of the Chinese language acquired during those years has often stood me in good stead since, especially in prosecuting two of my favorite studies, Chinese philosophy and Chinese ceramics. Shortly after the family returned to the United States I was kidnapped by gypsies and held by them for almost three years. They were not unkind to me. and in many respects the life appealed to me, but eventually I escaped and returned to my parents. EVEN TODAY, after the lapse of many years, I distinctly recall the storm-torn night of my escape. Pedro, the king of the gypsies, always kept me in his tent at night where he and his wife could guard me. He was a very light sleeper, which had always presented a most effective obstacle to my eluding the clutches of my captors.

27. Edgar Rice Burroughs In Oak Park
Biography and list of texts online at Project Gutenberg.

Edgar Rice Burroughs
Edgar Rice Burroughs, the writer who created Tarzan and fantastic tales of science fiction, was born February 23, 1875 in Chicago, Illinois to Major George Tyler Burroughs and Mary Evaline (Zieger). Edgar Burroughs unsuccessfully pursued a series of careers until he was 35 years old: soldier, cowboy, salesman, and other singular interests. It wasn't until his Oak Park years, between 1914 and 1919, that Burroughs became a successful author. While living in Chicago and Oak Park, Burroughs created many of his most memorable characters. The first Tarzan book, Tarzan the Ape Man , was completed in May 1912. Burroughs was also reknown for writings including the "John Carter of Mars" books, magazine stories, and many other published works. Burroughs captivated many children and adults alike with his imaginative tales. Today his legacy lives on in print film video and online Burroughs' ERB, Inc.

Tarzan was born in the jungles of Africa, but his creator first saw the light of day amidst more tranquil surroundings.
Edgar Rice Burroughs was born in Chicago on September 1st, 1875. His father, George Tyler Burroughs, was a Civil War veteran and now a successful businessman. Major Burroughs and his wife Mary had five other boys besides Edgar, but two of the children died in infancy, leaving Edgar the youngest of the family.
"Eddie" attended several schools during his formative years, often being shuttled from one to another due to the outbreak of various diseases. At this time it was standard to learn Greek and Latin in addition to English composition, and Burroughs would often lament his erratic schooling, which resulted in his (or so he said) learning little English while taking the same Greek and Latin courses over and over again. Despite his claims to the contrary, this early exposure to Classical literature and mythology would serve Burroughs well in his future writing career.
An influenza epidemic hit Chicago in 1891; hundreds died, and Edgar's worried parents wondered how they could protect their fifteen-year-old son. A few years earlier two of Edgar's brothers, George and Harry, had started a cattle ranch out west in Idaho. This seemed like a logical safe haven, so George and Mary packed Edgar onto an Idaho-bound train.

Edgar Rice Burroughs nasce nel 1875 a Chicago.
Under the Moons of Mars Normal Bean (Tipo Qualsiasi).

    Presents
    THE TARZAN EQUATION
A Comparison As longtime fans of the Tarzan novels of Edgar Rice Burroughs, as well as Disney fans extraordinaire, we faced a dilemma: how would Disney's new animated Tarzan feature stack up against the original novels? Would it be good Disney, but bad Tarzan? Or perhaps the other way around? Would it satisfy both the Mousketeer and the Tarmangani spirit in us? Here are the results of our musings. ITEM ERB DISNEY OUR OPINION CONCLUSION The date. According to Tarzan authorities, approximately the year 1908. During the reign of Queen Victoria, which ended in 1901. Even though it is inaccurate, the Victorian era lends a particular charm to the characters. It helps that it's our favorite historical age. This date would give us trouble if the entire life of Tarzan were to be explored, but it works for a one-shot film. For more on the date of Tarzan click here. Tarzan: appearance. Blue eyes; attractive, but not classically handsome The most important thing about any Tarzan project is Tarzan. If he's not right, you're wasting your time. Disney's Tarzan has a great look. So far, so good. Tarzan: dialogue.
