In 1929, he married Helen Ruth Brown. They moved to Milwaukee where their two sons were born. Brown attempted several jobs before joining the Milwaukee Allied Authors Club and started writing for trade magazines. From 1937 until 1945, he was a proofreader for the Milwaukee Journal . In 1937, he sold his first detective story 'Monday's Off Night'. His breakthrough came a year later with the publication of 'The Moon for a Nickel' in Detection Story . In the Forties, he sold hundreds of stories to the detective and science fiction pulp magazines.
In 1947, his first novel was published which brought him fame and money. He quit his job to become a full-time writer. He divorced Helen and soon remarried. In 1949, the Browns moved to Mexico where they stayed for three years. In 1952, they moved to the Los Angeles area, but in 1954, on the advice of Brown's doctors, they moved back to Tucson. Fredric Brown is one of my favorite writers in this genre, and all three of the novels you mention are classics/must-reads. I can also recommend His Name Was Death, The Lenient Beast, and (if you can find it) Night of the Jabberwock.
A lot of Brown's stuff is stupidly out of print, but in my (limited) experience Brown was an amazingly consistent writer. I'm willing to bet that everything he wrote is at least worth a look.

From These Ashes: The Complete Short SF of Fredric Brown > Customer Review #1: The master of short-short SF

If you like classic Science Fiction this volume should be in your collection. If you think you dont like SF, but enjoy well written fiction full of ideas, surprises, and humor you should try this.
Fredric Brown was deservedly famous, his short story "Arena" was voted into the SFWA Hall of Fame. His name may not be mentioned frequently anymore, but those that had the fortune of reading some of his stories never forgot him. This is an excellent collection that brings back to print his unique and thoughtful stories. Many of the stories collected here are classics, many are less than one page long, but in that short space they pack their concept (and a punch) so effectively, and are so well crafted, that more words would only dilute the effect. Some of the stories may be a little outdated in the science part of the fiction, but even those stand the test of time as speculative fiction.

THE LIGHTS IN THE SKY ARE STARS
by Fredric Brown
Reviewed by Steven H Silver The Lights in the Sky Are Stars is set during a four year period from 1997 to 2001. Mankind has reached the Moon, Mars (in 1964, five years ahead of schedule for the first lunar landing) and Venus, but then turned its back on further exploration. The novel opens in Seattle where drifter and spaceship mechanic, Max Andrews is visiting his brother Bill's family. The bulk of the novel takes place during 1998 and 1999. After leaving Bill in Seattle, Max began working for Ellen Gallagher, a woman running for Congress on a pro-space platform, including a push for an exploratory ship to Jupiter. She and Max become involved and Ellen eventually decides to put Max into the secondary position of the Jupiter Project. While giving a real feel for the political maneuvers which would be behind such a project, Brown's writing is dated. The complexities which would be behind such a goal are nowhere near as complex as they would be in the real 1990's. Other aspects that date the book are minor, for instance Max and Ellen's vacation to Havana. Nevertheless, as Heinlein also did, Brown, in

The Fabulous Clipjoint Breakfast of Champions Odds Against Tomorrow Fredric Brown

Fredric Brown (1906-72) stepped into the spotlight with the publication of The Fabulous Clipjoint in 1947. For years, he had been writing detective stories that had been published in several of the many magazines (such as Ellery Queen's Rogue's Gallery) that were then popular. A native of Cincinnati and a college dropout, Brown worked in a number of menial jobs while he honed his craft. When he published The Fabulous Clipjoint, he was working as a proofreader for the Milwaukee Journal. The novel was award the Mystery Writers of America's 1947 Edgar Award for Best First Novel.
Brown wrote both science fiction and mystery, and his mastery of both genres was impressive. He published some 22 books after the success of The Fabulous Clipjoint, which also initiated a series of novels featuring the adventures of Ed Hunter and his Uncle Ambrose the only such "franchise"-type series in Brown's entire body of work. His other notable novels include Night of the Jabberwock (1951) and The Deep End (1952). His style was notable for its quietly observant flow that masked the rigor and sturdiness of his plots. As disturbing and frightening as his work could be, it was always grounded in logic.
Fredric Brown's work continued in print after his death in 1972. A decade later, his many stories written for magazines and anthologies earlier in his career were collected for the first time in a definitive edition. It ran to 16 volumes.
