Ray Bradbury E scritor estadounidense de ciencia ficción, conocido ante todo por sus novelas y colecciones de relatos, entre las que destacan El hombre ilustrado Fahrenheit 451 (1953), ambientada en una sociedad futura donde la palabra escrita está prohibida, y El vino del estío (1957). Nació en Waukegan (Illinois), el 22 de agosto de 1920. Bradbury fue un niño extraordinariamente imaginativo y proclive a sufrir pesadillas y fantasías aterrorizadoras, que posteriormente desarrolló en sus escritos. A los doce años empezó a escribir 4 horas diarias. Vendió su primer relato en 1941 y en 1943 se dedicó plenamente a la literatura. Crónicas marcianas (1950), una novela sobre la colonización y conquista de Marte, es la más famosa de sus obras y consolidó su posición como principal autor de ficción científica. Esta novela refleja muchos de los temores presentes en la sociedad estadounidense de los años cincuenta, principalmente el miedo a una guerra nuclear, el deseo de llevar una vida sencilla y la reacción contra el racismo y la censura. A lei Bradbury sottopone i suoi primi racconti "mistery", che, pubblicati su riviste quali "Dime Mysterv Magazine", "Detective Tales" e "New Detective Magazine", verranno a lungo dimenticati e ristampati solo negli anni ottanta. E' negli anni quaranta, su riviste come "Thrilling Wonder Stories" e "Planet Stories", che cominciano ad apparire i coloriti e poetici racconti di fantascienza, fra cui "Il gelo e la fiamma", "Lorelei delle nebbie di porpora" (in collaborazione con Leigh Brackett) e soprattutto "Il picnic d'un milione d'anni", primo mattone delle future Cronache marziane House Dark Carnival ; di li a qualche anno saranno ristampati (ma non tutti) nella nuova antologia Paese d'ottobre (1955). Ray Bradbury Ray Bradbury is one of the immortals among us, whose classic works of SF, fantasy and horror will be read a thousand years from now by our descendents and the inhabitants of the planets of a thousand distant stars. Ray is a winner of the Nebula, Prometheus, O.Henry Memorial, Balrog, Bram Stoker, Benjamin Franklin, Aviation-Space Writers and World Fantasy (Lifetime Achievement) Awards. It's surely redundant to say he's a SFWA Grand Master. He has won the Gandalf Award for Lifetime Contribution to Fantasy (in 1980), and published his first story in 1941. A writer for TV, radio, theater and film, his credits include a script for the film Moby Dick , and his show The Ray Bradbury Theater was aired on the Sci-Fi Channel. Ray's fiction comes in both heavy-duty novel-length parcels and the handy, travel-size short-story package for ease and convenience, and his work is brilliant in both forms. His novels include Fahrenheit 451 (Locus Award, 1987; Prometheus Award, 1984)
