BISHOP MICHAEL JOSEPH KANIECKI, S.J. Served as Bishop: 1985-2000 (born 1935-2000)
The day after he was consecrated a bishop, he stood next to Pope John Paul II and President Ronald Reagan at the Fairbanks International Airport. He was a pilot for over 35 years. His coat of arms carries an airplane propeller and the motto: "TO LOVE AND TO SERVE." As Bishop of Fairbanks, on wing and on wheel, he traveled far and wide throughout his 409,849 square mile missionary diocese, conferring the Sacrament of Holy Orders on men, both Native and white, and the Sacrament of confirmation on countless young and old, blessing new churches, meeting and greeting, loving and serving the widely scattered flocks entrusted to his pastoral care. And it was while loving and serving one of his remote flocks in the bush Alaska that the Lord he loved and served above all called him out of this life. Michael Kaniecki was born in Detroit, Michigan on April 13, 1935. Already as a young boy he felt called to the priesthood. He was however, at the time drawn also to an outdoor, wilderness lifestyle, having spent a good part of his youth in northern Michigan and in northern Canada hunting, fishing and trapping. (In more recent years he hunted only with a camera.) As he neared the end of his high school years, he found himself facing a kind of dilemma: to lead the life of a priest? or a more outdoor type of life?. Then he was granted a scholarship to the Naval Academy in Annapolis. However, he failed to pass the physical, needed to have surgery, had to wait a year. During that year he learned about Alaska and its challenges, and saw that therein lay the answer to his dilemma. In Alaska he could serve as a priest and at the same time live in an environment so very much in keeping with his natural inclinations.

Bishop Michael Warfel Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Juneau Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Fairbanks Served as Apostolic Administrator: October 2001 - August 22, 2002 (born 1948-present)
Bishop Warfel was replaced as Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Fairbanks by Bishop-elect Donald Kettler on August 22, 2002. Bishop Warfel replaced Reverend Richard D. Case, S.J., who has held the position of Diocesan Administrator since the death of Bishop Michael J. Kaniecki, S.J. in August 2000. The appointment is being made in order to lighten the weight of responsibility that has been placed upon Fr. Case as well as allow him to resume some of his former pastoral duties. Bishop Warfel was born on September 16, 1948 in Elkhart, Indiana. He attended Indiana University, obtained a B.A. in Philosophy from St. Gregory's College Seminary in Cincinnati, Ohio, his Masters of Divinity from Mt. St. Mary's of the West, also in Cincinnati and his Masters in Theology from St. Michael's College, Burlington, Vermont. He was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Anchorage on April 26, 1980 and served in a number of parishes in Southcentral, Alaska. On December 17, 1996, he was ordained and installed as the fourth Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Juneau. Currently, he serves as chairman of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops Committee on Evangelization. He also is a member of the Administrative Committee for the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.

ANGLICAN COMMUNION NEWS SERVICE ACNS ENGLAND 25 OCTOBER 2003
Reclaiming Christian Orthodoxy: Address by Bishop Michael Ingham at Halfway to Lambeth conference
In the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew's Gospel Jesus asks, "Is there any one among you who, if your child asks for bread, will give them a stone? Or if the child asks for a fish will give them a snake?" [Matthew 7: 9-10] Jesus was speaking of the love of God for the needs of all the human family. He was in particular challenging the notion that the love of God is reserved for the pious and the pure, the ritually kosher and the institutionally orthodox. Just as human parents will not refuse their own children food, or love, he says, so the Lord God will not refuse those who ask for bread in the name of His Son Jesus Christ. www.changingattitude.org/news_i_c_uganda_vancouver_refugees.html This summer at least two dioceses in the Anglican Communion - both beginning with the word "new" - decided to do something about it. They, and we here today, believe that God is calling the church to end discrimination and prejudice based on sexual orientation. We believe that the continued exclusion of people through the misuse of Scripture, and the repetition of inherited and unexamined prejudices against minorities, is a sin against the love of God.

[ACNS source: Diocese of New Westminster, Anglican Church of Canada] Dear Friends in Christ: I write to you as your bishop concerning some widely publicized reactions to the recent decisions of our Diocesan Synod. This means that Anglicans in these dioceses are being prohibited by their bishop from receiving communion in our diocese, and we in theirs. Similar steps have been threatened by these same bishops against the Episcopal Church of the United States as well as the Church of England, where decisions have recently been made with which they also disagree. Let me assure you that our diocese remains in full communion with the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Primate of the Anglican Church of Canada, and the Metropolitan of British Columbia and Yukon. We are members of the Canadian Church and of the worldwide Anglican Communion. These declarations by others should be viewed as expressions of anger and dissent, and while we regret their intensity you may be assured they will have no effect, legal or practical, on Anglicans here in our diocese. In light of Scripture, and in the spirit of mutual respect and tolerance, let me make it clear that the Diocese of New Westminster continues to welcome all members of the Anglican Communion, wherever they may be. We shall not exclude or reject our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ, whatever their personal convictions, and we wish to assure them that the doors of our churches remain open to all. Furthermore, we shall continue as a diocese to support the mission work of the Canadian church in the North and overseas with our financial contributions, even where certain bishops have attempted to exclude their people from fellowship with us.

Catholic Conviction: Bishop Michael Sheridan: No Communion For Any Catholic Supporting Abortion...Salvation At Stake

So there really is Christian conviction within some of the Catholic clergy in the USA. That is, there are those who see clearly that biblical morality is worth defending instead of double-speaking one’s way into opportunism of one temporary advantage or another. So it is that Bishop Michael Sheridan, spiritual leader of the second-largest Roman Catholic diocese, stands alongside Holy Scripture. Instead of cowering before egocentric disobedient so-called Christians who continue daily to see through their own religious agendas rather than God’s revealed truth, Sheridan stands squarely for God’s ethic. May his voice echo through other larynxes.

A LETTER FROM BISHOP MICHAEL SHERIDAN OF COLORADO SPRINGS: NO COMMUNION FOR PRO-ABORTION / HOMOSEXUAL MARRIAGE VOTERS
A PASTORAL LETTER TO THE CATHOLIC FAITHFUL OF THE DIOCESE OF COLORADO SPRINGS ON THE DUTIES OF CATHOLIC POLITICIANS AND VOTERS Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, This coming November we Americans will participate in one of the most important national elections in recent history. The president, senators and congressmen who are placed in office by our votes will serve at a time in which issues that are critical to the very survival of our civilization will be at the top of the political agenda. As we prepare for these elections I consider it my duty as your bishop to write to you about these matters so that you might go to the polls this fall with a well informed conscience. Among the many distortions and misrepresentations that prevail in the current debates about the relationship between religion and the social order (politics) is the assertion that faith and politics are to be kept separated. This, apparently, is based upon the American doctrine of the separation of church and state. In fact, the wall that separates church and state is the safeguard against both the establishment of a state religion and the imposition of sectarian religious beliefs and practices, such as particular denominational forms of worship or theological tenets. In no way does the American doctrine of separation of church and state even suggest that the well-formed consciences of religious people should not be brought to bear on their political choices.

17. BISHOP MICHAEL

http://digilander.libero.it/ricfed/yafsautoritutti/yfsb/bishop.htm
