ALL THE DIRTY COWARDS

ALL THE CRAZY WINTERS

"An original sleuth, a delightful Southern setting . . ." D.R. Meredith From the author of "All the Great Pretenders," another Jesus Creek mystery. First there's the spectacular blaze that totals the antebellum home of genealogist Oliver Host. Then the appalling murder of librarian Estelle Carhart, a lady too softhearted even to collect fines for overdue books. Delia Cannon, a library volunteer and something of an amateur genealogist, suspects a connection between the crimes. But Delia doesn't yet realize that she already knows too much for her own good . . . and that somebody in Jesus Creek wants her to check out of the library and the sleuthing business permanently. Tennessee State University in Tennessee I. Biography and Literary Works Authors write in many different genres. There are authors who write drama, fiction, plays, poetry, and non-fictions. Maya Angelou and Langston Hughes write poetry. Lorraine Hansberry wrote plays. Deborah Adams, a Tennessee author, writes novel, short fiction, and non-fiction stories. Deborah Adams, a seventh-generation Tennessean, brings to her work an appreciation for the lore and traditions of the South. Combining her sharply perceptive observations of human nature with a biting and slightly warped wit, she creates satirical novels that gently tweak the reader's conscience while mercilessly tickling the funny bone. Before email replaced pen and paper, Adams wrote long descriptive letters to everyone. Eventually one of her correspondents said, "I love your letters. They're so funny." "But," protested Adams, "they aren't supposed to be funny. Everything I write is completely serious. Her friend replied with a laugh, "Yes I know." That might have been the end of Adams's literary career altogether, if it had not been for Sharyn McCrumb who, when reading one of her depressing short stories, suggested, "Why are you writing like this? Why do you not write like you write?"

Here's two excerpts from "Features For Women" hosted by Deborah Adams. The programs were aired right after "Breakfast Time" which featured Bill "Wee Willie" Webber. They were broadcast over WFIL-TV, Channel 6 in Philadelphia which was owned by the Philadelphia Inquirer at that time. The station is now WPVI.
While the first cut was labeled September 1958 and the second one was labeled September 1959, it is our feeling that both programs dated from September of 1958 (and that one was just mislabeled.)

Show #2

We have added a third show dating from December 1958 and Bill "Wee Willie" Webber can be heard at the beginning of the program.
Show #3

During her time on TV, Deborah Adams lived by herself in an old house in Valley Forge. When she purchased the home, it was in need of repairs and improvements. Much of it was done by Adams herself. She built her own kitchen cabinets and added a new front porch. She laid a flagstone terrace and made kennels for her dogs out of an old chicken house on the property.
She was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania's School of Architecture. She was expected to follow in her dad's footsteps and become an architect. She had two loves, acting and writing. Hailing from New England, her family disapproved of "going on stage." They wanted her to get a real job. She combined her talents and was named Advertising Manager of the export division of DuPont. From there, she moved to the WFIL stations as Merchandising Director. In 1955, her ten minute daily show was mainly cooking on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. She was "Mrs. Fixit" on Mondays and Thursdays was "special guest" day.

    About The Author
Flair and Macavity Award-winner Deborah Adams' first novel, All The Great Pretenders, was nominated for the Agatha Award in 1993. Since that time, Adams has earned a reputation among readers, critics, and booksellers as a talented author who consistently produces a more compelling story with each new novel. A seventh-generation Tennessean, Adams brings to her work an appreciation for the lore and traditions of the South.
