1998 NCAA AUBURN UNIVERSITY HOST March 24, 1998 Auburn Seeks to Defend Team Title over Top-Ranked Stanford Welcome to the 75th annual NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships. This meet features some of the world's best athletes, including medalists from the 1998 World Championships, held in Perth, Australia, in January. Stanford has a slight edge over Auburn to win the team competition, though spirited swimming, backed by home town fans, may be enough to propel the Tigers to a repeat title. Stanford is led by World Championship veterans Tom Wilkens, a senior from New Jersey, and Steven Brown, a freshman from Reno, Nevada; and sprinter/flyer Sabir Muhammad, a senior from Atlanta. The Cardinal spooked Texas in a Halloween dual meet, 156-85, and turned in several superb performances in winning their 17th consecutive Pac Ten conference title earlier this month. The team has substantial strength in the distance events; Wilkens and Brown are the top two seeds in the 400 IM and Cardinals' Jeremy Kane and Matt O'Mara are scheduled to swim the final heat of the 1650 freestyle. Auburn's forte will be the sprints and the relays, which count double points under NCAA rules. Australian sprint sensation Brett Hawke was Auburn's lone individual winner (50 free) in last year's team victory. Hawke thrilled fans by producing a jaw-dropping 18.62 split on Auburn's NCAA record-setting 200 medley relay. This year, Auburn has three other sub-20 second 50 freestylers to back up the Aussie, sophomores Matt Busbee and Aaron Ciarla, and junior Brock Newman.

    - Lane 9 News - Lenny Moves On: An Exclusive Interview with Lenny Krayzelburg October 30, 2003 By Phillip Whitten
Recently, world record-holder and triple Olympic champion Lenny Krayzelburg left Coach Mark Schubert and the Trojan Swim Club at USC, where he’d trained for nine years and achieved phenomenal success, and began swimming for Irvine Novaquatics and Coach Dave Salo.
I asked Coach Schubert how he felt about Lenny’s decision. He replied: “Lenny Krayzelburg is one of the most impressive individuals I’ve ever met in my life. What he accomplished is phenomenal. He gave me the best nine years any swimmer has ever given me, and I have tremendous respect for him. Whatever he does is okay with me.” I then sat down to talk with Lenny to talk about his decision, his current training environment and his goals for 2004. Here is what he had to say… SwimInfo
: Lenny, you went through a second shoulder surgery recently. When did you get back into the water?
