Drew Bobb of Paint Valley and Brice Redman of Westfall are the lineman and back of the year, respectively, on the Scioto Valley Conference 2003-04 all-league football team. Bobb, a 6-5, 240-pound senior who played both ways for the unbeaten Bearcats at tight end and linebacker, also was named kicker of the year by the league's coaches. Paint Valley's Pete Hollon, who guided the Bearcats to their seventh gold football for an undefeated league season, is the league's coach of the year. Redman a 5-9, 159-pound senior is one of five players to repeat from the 2002-03 squad. The leading rusher among league running backs, Redman broke school career and single season rushing records this season. Also earning back-to-back all-league honors are Westfall's Mike Angles, Paint Valley's Zac McFadden, Huntington's John Eldridge and Jeromy Detty of Southeastern.

MCC Soccer:
Women look to dominate in 2000
BY CHRIS BOWMAN
MESA LEGEND
Submitted September 19, 2000
As women’s soccer begins its fifth season at MCC, the T-Birds will attempt to continue their dominance of the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference under 1999 Coach of the Year Danny Sanchez. Jim Allen/MESA LEGEND MCC goaltender Deb Daley has shutout opponents in four of five games. Last season, MCC was ranked first in the nation for more than a month and finished with a 20-2 record. Their season ended in Utah at the District A playoffs where they lost 2-1 in overtime against Dixie College. Sanchez, who has led the women to the district playoffs in three of their first four seasons, believes the 2000 squad has a chance to be one of his best. “We have an extremely deep team this year,” said Sanchez, who is 69-11-3 during his tenure. “In the past, we sometimes had a let-down when we went to our substitutes. But with this team I think we will get a lift from the bench.

Women’s Soccer: Communication breakdown ends T-Birds’ terrific season
BY LEX HOHAN
MESA LEGEND
Submitted November 7, 2000
The women’s soccer team went into regionals with a 16-2-2 record this season. Their first regional game was against Pima Community College at MCC. In the middle of the first half, Pima took the lead 1-0.   Heather Bobb tied the game with only three minutes remaining in the second half. “We were the better team the whole way,” Kori Moore said. “We just needed to step it up a little bit.” Kim Patterson/ MESA LEGEND Freshman Jessica Nelson pushes the ball up field against Pima Community College. In sudden death overtime, it looked as though Mesa had won it with an attempt by Moore. After the ball went in, the referee called offsides on Mesa and disallowed the goal. The already suspenseful game carried into a second overtime where Kristen Purpura scored the winning goal to end the game 2-1.

By Dave Shoemaker Senior Bearcat Drew Bobb concluded his illustrious basketball career at Paint valley by setting several records and earning numerous post-season honors. Drew finishes his career with a grand total of 1,133 points, good for second place all-time. He trails only 1975 grad Mick Shoemaker. Where rebounding and blocked shots are concerned, Bobb trails nobody. He finishes as PV's all-time leader in both categories. He shattered Bob Mettler's career rebounding mark of 565 by grabbing 764 caroms. His 105 blocks bettered John Scott's record, which stood for 11 years. He also set records in both single-season rebounds and blocked shots. His 290 boards (a 13.2 average) beat former leader Mettler by 14, and his single-season blocks record of 61 broke Scott's mark, which was 47.
