Saturday, 30 September, 2000 PC Gamer UK and OGA Praise Soccer Gaming

Posted by Drinky
Quite a proud moment for us here at Soccer Gaming and particularly for our network site FIFA 2000 Online which has received column inches in this month's PC Gamer. Their 'Netware' section, endorsed by The Online Gamers Association , had this to say about F2KO's superb modem database:
'Finding a game of FIFA 2000 online used to be difficult, but not anymore. SoccerGaming.com's modem database contains details of some 8,000 users who can be tracked down by e-mail or ICQ, qith information on a player's country, county and even city. With plenty of UK-dwelling players, it won't take long to find a suitable opponent and get a match going. http://www.fifa2000.net/multiplayer/
This Week At Soccer Gaming
Posted by Drinky Reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated (What a great line that would be if Mark Twain hadn't said the same years ago). I've been rather conspicous in my absence from posting to the site in the last week or so, mainly because we've got some very special things coming up this week on Soccer Gaming as the build-up to the big Fall release schedule begins to head towards a climax. This week, we'll be posting our definitive previews of the two big guns on the management and action fronts, Championship Manager 00/01 and FIFA 2001 , and poking past the press releases to get at the juicy game meat inside. All you lucky people who are subscribed to our newsletter (and if you're not, do so

Soccer Fans Network Forums Soccer Events International Club Competitions CL Stage 2 Group C: Madrid, Milan, Borussia, Lokomotiv Juan Sticky these threads already!
Well, we could have done worse. Surely the Madrid-Milan games will be classics, and I look forward to them. Madrid will have their work cut out for them to get back to 100% for the game in San Siro, which will open the group. It can be good to play the toughest game right away though, specially when the two following are at home.
Madrid´s calendar
Matchday 1: at Milan
Matchday 2: vs Lokomotiv
Matchday 3: vs Dortmund
Matchday 4: at Dortmund
Matchday 5: vs Milan
Matchday 6: at Lokomotiv i think that real have the most chances of finishing first- while roma will likely take second- although they looked good against real in new york, even without totti- so first is not out of the question.
Juan, you underestimate AEK so much that you give Genk more chances of going to the uefa cup?
AEK will be difficult to beat in Athens, although i'm sure Real Madrid is more than capable of coming away with a win in both matches. next round AEK- Roma in Athens- bith teams want and need teh victory very badly- it'll be a tough battle- i hope we make our first ever win in the CL.

By Simon Hooper, SI.com For those who like to promote soccer as an adjunct of the entertainment industry, and for whom therefore Wednesday's Champions League final should have been the sporting equivalent of The Matrix Reloaded, a meeting between Juventus and AC Milan was always destined to disappoint. It is testament to the Italian passion for soccer as something on a fundamentally more important plateau that neither side felt obliged to put on a show, despite the taunts and pleas from the soccer aesthetes. Instead, they served up a game of unashamedly Italian complexity played out in accordance with the ultimate Machiavellian maxim: "One judges by the result." Perhaps unsurprisingly, while most of Europe's media recoiled in horror from the resulting spectacle, only Italy's journalists found anything of merit to praise. "This night will be remembered as the feast of Italian soccer," said

Azzurri spared from oblivion - match report: Italy 1- 1 Mexico
Alessandro Del Piero (85)
Jared Borgetti (34) Substitute Alessandro del Piero scored a dramatic late equaliser as Italy earned a 1-1 draw with Mexico - ensuring both teams qualify for the last 16. Jared Borgetti had scored a brilliant first-half header for Mexico - adequate reward for a slick passing display by the Central American team. But Italy - who had previously had two goals ruled out for off-side - finally got their equaliser shortly before time.

OITA, Japan — Mexico still has never beaten Italy — but so what? The Mexicans got into the second round of the World Cup by tying them. And won the group, too. An 85th-minute goal by substitute Alessandro Del Piero lifted Italy to a 1-1 draw on Thursday night, sending both teams into the second round. Mexico, which won its first two games, finished on top of Group G and will play the runner-up from Group D — either the United States, South Korea or Portugal. Italy was second at 1-1-1 and will play the top team from that division. Read more below Game news Features

Italy have made it through to the knock out stages of the World Cup despite only drawing 1-1 with Group G winners Mexico in a pulsating clash in Oita. Substitute Alessandro Dell Piero was on hand to secure a point for Italy five minutes from time, after Mexico had earlier taken the lead through Borgetti. Ironically, even if Italy had lost the game 1-0, they would still have gone through following Ecuador's 1-0 win over Croatia in the group's other game. In an open, entertaining match, there were chances at both ends and Inzaghi thought he had given Italy the lead on 13 minutes when he clipped the ball over Perez in the Mexcio goal but his effort was ruled out for offside. The Milan striker was later to miss several chances and was eventually substituted for Vincenzo Montella.

Gunners on all cylinders
Arsenal 5
Wimbledon 1
by Mark Bradley
AS statements of intent go, it was a truly inspired performance by champions desperate not to surrender their crown.
For while Chelsea may have meekly surrendered any realistic title ambitions against Leicester, Arsenal made it clear they would push Manchester United to the limits in defence of the Premiership.
Instead of stuttering to a halt like Chelsea on Sunday, after seizing a 2-0 lead through Ray Parlour and Patrick Vieira, the Gunners destroyed Wimbledon in a devastating three-minute period.
An own-goal by Ben Thatcher, a strike by Dennis Bergkamp to help erase the painful memory of his FA Cup penalty miss last week, and a tap-in by Nwankwo Kanu all sent a clear warning to United ahead of their trip to Juventus.
For Arsenal not only closed the gap on the Premiership leaders to a point - even if they have played a game more - they also narrowed United's previously huge advantage on goal difference to manageable proportions.
Just as they had done in holding United recently, the Dons were seemingly intent on securing a draw, with midfielders Stewart Castledine, Ceri Hughes and Robbie Earle rarely moving from their shielding role in front of the back four.

Striker's hat-trick too much for game Monaco as Turin titans reveal pedigree
Juventus 4
Monaco 1
AN INSPIRED Alessandro Del Piero scored a set-piece hat-trick as Juventus crushed Monaco last night to virtually book themselves a place in their third consecutive European Cup final.
The Italy striker put Juventus ahead after 33 minutes with a breathtaking freekick from 25 metres after Zinedine Zidane had been clobbered by Martin Djetou, a foul which earned the defender a booking. Del Piero stepped up and sent his inch-perfect right-foot shot fizzing and curling into Barthez's top right-hand corner.
A lively Monaco side equalised on the stroke of half-time through Francisco Da Costa, ironically with a little help from Del Piero, who was back in his own half defending a corner.
Juventus half-cleared the danger but the ball fell on the edge of the box to Da Costa, who had only been on the pitch five minutes as a replacement for the injured Christophe Pignol. The Portuguese midfielder rifled in a shot that spun off Del Piero's outstretched leg and beat Italy goalkeeper Angelo Peruzzi to make the score 1-1.
Juve responded immediately, launching an attack from the kick-off in a determined bid to restore their lead.
