They aren't the pushover team they were a few years ago. They are an eager group on a roll, especially heading into the playoffs. THE SPORTSMEN'S BATTERY

Commentary written in Blue and White.
    Tuesday, July 23, 2002
    "DUDE, WHERE'S MY CUP?..."
Curtis Joseph has left the building, for less money (we're all told) than he would've received had he stayed. The high-rent free-agent market seems to have shunned Toronto, as much as the Amish eschew modern gadgetry. Dmitry Yushkevich - the kind of defenceman a team needs when facing the Jagrs, Sakics and Kariyas out there - has now achieved the ultimate Canadian status symbol: permanent Florida residence. Playoff hero Gary Roberts has had arthroscopic shoulder surgery and is scheduled to miss half of next season, while even Carlton the Bear has been dragged into the off-season bickering between disgruntled players, agents and owners.
And all of this occurring under the encroaching shadow of a league shut-down, when the current bargaining agreement expires in a couple of years. Strange things are afoot, indeed.
So where does this leave the rest of us, who sit, helplessly, on the sidelines? What do the fans have to look forward to in the upcoming season?
