3-3 Stalemate for Icers, Golden Nights

Clarkson Harvard
Despite a career-high 42 saves for sophomore goaltender Dov Grumet-Morris (Evanston, IL) and a two-goal night by junior winger Tim Pettit (Seattle, WA), the Harvard men's hockey team skated to a 3-3 tie with Clarkson on Friday night at the Bright Hockey Center. Harvard had a golden opportunity to claim victory in the waning minutes of overtime when Clarkson's Matt Syroczynski (Hamburg, NY) was called for a delay the game penalty at the 1:31 mark of overtime. The delay of game call resulted in an automatic penalty shot as Syroczynski covered the puck in front of his own net. Harvard's Dominic Moore (Thornhill, ONT) barreled in towards Walsh, who came far out of the net to take away the angle. Moore faked right and then tried to cut back to his left to lift the backhander past Walsh, the puck skipped over his stick and sailed right of the net. Tim Pettit had netted the equalizer at the 9:03 mark of the third stanza when he collected a face-off win by linemate Tom Cavanagh (Warwick, RI) and rifled a shot from atop the right face-off circle for his second tally of the game.

PROVIDENCE DEFEATS CLARKSON, 4-2
PROVIDENCE, R.I. The Providence College men's hockey team defeated Clarkson University, 4-2, on Saturday, November 24 at PC's Schneider Arena in a non-conference contest.
The Friars (5-8-1) used a pair of first-period power-play goals from junior Jon DiSalvatore (South Windsor, Conn.) and freshman center Chris Chaput (Pawtucket, R.I.) to open a 2-0 lead in the opening 20 minutes of play. It was just the second time this season that Providence has scored first in a game.
DiSalvatore scored his ninth goal of the season when he tipped a shot from sophomore defenseman Stephen Wood (Sudbury, Mass.) past CU's Karl Mattson. Chaput beat Mattson on a breakaway and at the end of the period, Mattson was replaced in goal by Mike Walsh.
In the second period, Clarkson evened the score with a pair of goals. Chris Blight got the Golden Knights to within one goal and Randy Jones tied the contest at 2-2 when he scored on the power play.
In the final period, senior Drew Omicioli (West Warwick, R.I.) scored from Chaput and sophomore defenseman Jason Platt (Portola Valley, Calif.). Platt scored Providence's final goal off a draw in the CU end.

River Hawks Complete North Country Sweep with 3-2 Win Over Clarkson
POTSDAM, NY— Jimi St. John posted 21 saves and three different UMass-Lowell forwards scored goals as the #5 ranked River Hawks of Hockey East won their eighth straight game with a 3-2 victory over the Clarkson University Hockey team, of the ECAC, in a non-league game before 2,623 at Cheel Arena Saturday night.
After a scoreless first period, Lowell got on the scoreboard first when Ken Farrell tallied on a wrist shot from the top of the right circle that skipped through the five-hole of Clarkson goaltender, junior Mike Walsh (Downingtown, PA) at 3:04 of the second frame. The Knights tied it up when sophomore Rob McFeeters (Woodville, ONT) scored a shorthanded goal, Clarkson's first in 56 games, at 5:27, just 12 seconds after the River Hawks had gone on the man-advantage. McFeeters pressured a Lowell defenseman into a turnover right in front of the River Hawks' net and nudged in a shot for his second goal of the season.
Lowell came right back with a pair of goals 30 seconds apart to take a 3-1 lead. Laurent Meunier ripped a slapshot from the top of the slot for the go ahead goal at 8:54 and Stephen Slonina followed at 9:24, scoring on a backhand at the top of the crease for the eventual gamewinner.

Position: Left Wing
Shoots: Left Dave was selected with Boston's 4th choice, 66th overall in the 1982 Amateur Draft. Dave is known for his skill as penalty killer and defensive specialist, but during the 95-96 season he emerged as a goal scorer as well. He uses his reach to great advantage while killing penalties, and in 1991 he tied the Maple Leaf team record for shorthanded goals in a season with 8, included in that total was two in one game against Vancouver. After three seasons with Toronto, Dave re-signed in Boston as Free Agent, November 22, 1991. On December 16, 1995 his first career hat trick paced the Bruins to a 6-3 win over Calgary. Despite missing 19 games last season with a broken finger, Dave had his best offensive season in the NHL, and signed a lucrative contract as a Free Agent with the Dallas Stars, July 11, 1996.

Straub will join the Tigers this fall as a sophomore, after playing for the University of Findlay as a freshman last season. He played all 38 games for the Oilers, scoring a pair of goals and adding four assists. Findlay has since dropped its hockey program, however. Straub previously skated for the Nanaimo Clippers of the British Columbia Junior Hockey League. Tigers add two to recruiting class Marty Sertich Sertich honored as MVP of hockey team CC falls to Seawolves at WCHA Final Five Colorado College scored first and outshot Alaska Anchorage by a 45-18 margin, but it was the surprising Seawolves who claimed a 4-1 victory in the play-in game of the WCHA Final Five and most likely ended CC's season. The Tigers remained tied for 14th in the Pairwise Rankings, a system used for determining the NCAA tournament 16-team field that will be announced on Sunday. Their chances of moving up, however, are slim after Thursday's early elimination from the league playoffs. Sophomore center Trevor Frischmon's deflection at 9:21 of the second period staked CC to a 1-0 lead that lasted only 30 seconds. UAA, which first struck twice within 50 seconds then added its third tally in the period's final minute, got 44 saves from senior goalie Chris King in the victory.
