Biography Puck-n-Roll Diary Ask Shjon
Shjon Walter Podein grew up in Rochester, Minnesota USA. He was born on March 5, 1968 to Jerre and Walter Podein. Shjon is the oldest of three Podein boys, brother Rian was born three years later and then KC who is six years younger. He started playing hockey at five on the outdoor rinks in Rochester. Off-season he played youth soccer to help him become a better hockey player. His greatest hockey memory was watching the US Hockey Team win the gold medal at Lake Placid in 1980. During the busy summer months in Minnesota, Shjon and Sherry spend their free time on the water, traveling, and just hanging out with family and friends. It must be known that Shjon is somewhat of a jokester and is known for his outrageous answering machine messages which, often times, change daily. If you have a funny message (no obscenities please) email the website – if Shjon uses yours, we’ll send you something funny in return! What about hockey? What about statistics? Okay, if you want to know more about Shjon’s hockey career and stats, and why wouldn’t you? Visit the Blues and NHLPA’s websites on our links page.

Why are we unique? We believe we are the only elementary adaptive floor hockey program in the nation where children with physical and mental disabilities are able to participate.
"It's been a wonderful experience for my son. It's good for him both physically and mentally and has taught him a lot about himself and others." -Janet Schlenker, parent "AFH is the best confidence builder in the world! The kids are doing something no one else can do and if the kids in wheelchairs could get up and stand, they'd stand about 8" taller... not to mention the fact that it's just plain old fun!" -Virginia Cormack, parent "Adapted Hockey is the best sport on the planet!" -Ryan Stack, player "Hockey helps me set goals and work to reach them."

The Shjon Podein Children's Foundation was founded in 1997 for public benefit in Rochester, Minnesota. We operate to accomplish the mission of improving the quality of life and creating an environment of caring and community support for children facing extraordinary difficulties.
We accomplish our mission by organizing fundraising events and then gift monies from those events to children's organizations. Most of the programs we give to don't receive a lot of exposure or government funding. Many organizations are grassroots efforts by good people trying to make life a little better for kids dealing with life-changing issues. Organizations submit a grant application that is then reviewed by a volunteer board of directors. All funds are directed toward children's services. No funds are gifted for capital or administrative expenses.
Website design and hosting services for the Shjon Podein Children's Foundation are proudly provided by Corporate Web Services, Inc.
