3. NHL Player Biographies-Cam Neely

It seems that whenever a player with great potential has his career cut short for whatever the reason, we tend to think about what might have been because of what has already happened. In the case of Cam Neely, there may have been great things in store for both him and hockey fans alike, but recurring injuries kept all of us from seeing him at his full potential. Neely began his hockey career with the Ridge Meadows Lightning in the BCAHA, where in the 1981-82 season he managed 73 goals and 141 points in just 64 games. The following season he moved on to the Portland Winter Hawks of the WHL, where he netted 56 goals and 120 points in just 72 games. Neely was the Vancouver Canucks first round, and 9th overall draft pick in 1983. Early in the 1983-84 season he was called up to the parent club where in 56 games Neely was good for 16 goals and 31 points. Neely had much the same results over the next two seasons. Neely had two outstanding seasons, 1989-90 and 1990-91. In these two season he had 55 and 51 goals respectively and finished the seasons with 92 and 91 points each. He had joined Phil Esposito as the only two Bruins up to that time with back to back 50 goal seasons. In the 1990-91 playoffs the Bruins faced off against the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Conference Finals. Ulf Samuelsson hit Neely in the thigh with his knee and put Neely out. The injury resulted in Neely developing a condition known as myositis ossificans, where a portion of the muscle turns to bone. Coupled with some nagging knee injuries, Neely was forced to sit out much of the next two seasons, playing only 22 games, yet he was still good for 30 points.

No matter at what time these players wore the Spoked B, they wore it with pride and played with class.
This is my personal page for my favorite hockey team in the NHL, THE BOSTON BRUINS !!! The Bruins are one of the original teams in the NHL, having a long tradition and history of hockey. Winners of 5 Stanley Cups, in recent years they have not had the opportunity to win a Cup. However we know that will change in the next few years ! With the addition of many young players, the Bruins are going to be contenders in the near future !
The coming season promises to be an exciting one, with the addtion of Joe Thornton and Sergei Samsonov to the Bruins ! Thornton has the potential to bloom into a franchise player and all of us that wear the Black and Gold hope that he does that wearing a Bruins jersey ! Samsonov though not as big physically as Joe is, however is extremely fast and quick, and having seen him play with the Detroit Vipers in the IHL, I know he will be a great addition to the team !
For those of us proud Bruins fans that bleed Black and Gold, we know that they will do their utmost to allow Ray Bourque, one of the premier defense players of all time, to drink from Lord Stanleys Cup, a goal, LONG OVERDUE and one most deservedly required !!

Why should cam neely be in hockey s Hall Of Fame? It’s because cam neelywas one of the best players of the 1980s and early to mid 1990s.

Right Wing, Shoots Right, 6' 1", 218 lbs. Born: Coxom, British Columbia - June 06, 1965. Vancouver's 1st Choice, 9th Overall, in 1983 Entry Draft Why should Cam Neely be in Hockey's Hall Of Fame? It’s because Cam Neely was one of the best players of the 1980s and early to mid 1990s. Sure, Cam Neely only scored 395 regular season goals. So what separates him from the John Ogrodniks (402 goals) and Pierre Larouches (395 goals) of the hockey world? Cam Neely was simply the best power forward playing in the NHL for a solid decade. He was like a brick wall - immovable from the crease and a threat to score a goal every time he stood there. He had a goal scorer’s touch and his brute strength allowed him to fight for pucks that others would never be able to get a stick on. No, Cam Neely never played on a Stanley Cup championship team. He never won the Art Ross or Hart Trophies, but that was tough to do with guys like Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux playing during the same era. Neely’s four Second-Team NHL All-Star selections, the Bill Masterton Trophy awarded to him in 1994, and participation in five NHL All-Star contests are a testament to his game, which combined skill and toughness with the utmost perseverance. Neely may have very easily remained in the league another four or five seasons if it were not for a rare thigh injury which forced him to miss most of two years in the early nineties and, coupled with knee injuries, eventually forced him into early retirement.

BOSTON (AP) Boston Bruins fans have long counted Cam Neely among the team's all-time greats, despite a career shortened by injury. In a pre-game ceremony on Jan. 12, the team plans to make that designation official by retiring Neely's No. 8, raising it to the FleetCenter rafters alongside the likes of Bobby Orr and Eddie Shore. No Bruins player has worn Neely's number since injuries forced his retirement in September 1996. Neely, a strong skater and imposing physical presence on the ice, is the 10th Bruin to have his number retired. "There's no question it's very special for me to go up there and join those guys, those great players," Neely said. "I think the common denominator between all the other numbers and players that are up there is the commitment to organization and the Bruins and the work ethic that I tried to instill in myself." Neely said the retirement of his number was the "icing on the cake" of a successful career. He isn't bitter that injuries cut his playing days short, and says he wouldn't have been as successful if he had played a less physical style.

do you know what was cam neely's first nhl career goal? any info will be great. thanks!
Answer Sorry, Cam, I looked up every resource I could get my hands on, but I couldn't find anything about his first goal. From what I can tell it was with Vancouver sometime in the 1983-84 season, his rookie year. He got 16 goals that year. Sorry I couldn't find more for you. Rate this Answer Was this answer helpful?
