Brian Mullen: A valiant fight
Courtesy of allsport.com Writer: Chris Lomon
Editor: Wendy McCreary
Whether it was in his hockey career or in his everyday life, Brian Mullen has made a habit of coming back strong when the odds are against him.
At 5'10" and 180 pounds, Mullen was far from the biggest or strongest player on the ice during his playing days. But even when he was on the receiving end of a punishing hit courtesy of a bigger opponent, he always managed to pick himself up and get back into the action.

Lady Byng, the wife of Canada's governor general, presented the first Byng Trophy in 1925, to be awarded to the player who "exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability." Frank Boucher was given the trophy to keep in 1935, after he had won it for the seventh time in eight years, and Lady Byng donated a duplicate to replace it. Lady Byng died in 1936, and the National Hockey then established a new award, called the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy. The winner is chosen by a poll of Professional Hockey Writers' Association members. November January 27, 2001 The Return Of Mario Many hockey card and memorabilia collectors have been complaining over the last few years about the lack of a superstar to drive the hobby forward. Although Wayne Gretzky has retired, his cards and memorabilia are still strong sellers but collectors are becoming a bit overwhelmed with the amount of Gretzky cards on the market. Many of us thought that Paul Kariya or Jaromir Jagr would take over as the hobby giant but unfortunately the Great One’s skates have been too hard to fill.

In their first four games the Sting have 3 win and a tie which have moved them into 1st place in the division. Game 1 saw Sarnia beat Burlington 6-1. Goals came from Paul Persichetti, Joey Burt, Joe McKelvie, Colin Epps, Shaun Bisson and Deiter Meena. In their 2nd game Sarnia played to a 3-3 tie with Cambridge. Goal scorers were Travis Mullen, Joe McKelvie and Anthony Litrenta. Brock Matusiak was solid in goal for both the games as Brendan Caraher was called up to the Florida Panthers for Xmas vacation along with center Joey Burt. After the New Year, Sarnia travelled to Brantford to play their arch rivals. The Sting played a great road game and after more than a week off, came home with a 3-2 victory. Litrenta, Burt and Epps found the back of the net and Joe McKelvie looked like the 2nd coming of Wayne Gretzky in Brantford with 3 great assists. Expecting Caraher back soon, Matusiak was rock solid against the 99er's and was a big reason for the win.
