LYNX DROP 7-4 DECISION TO EXPRESS

The Roanoke Express kept their playoff hopes alive with a 7-4 win over the Augusta Lynx on Sunday. Roanoke would continue to build on their lead, starting at 5:26 when Dan Carlson scored a shorthanded marker to make it 4-2. A clear by Andrew McPherson hit a stick that had been left in the Lynx zone and kicked the puck straight into the slot where Carlson walked in and beat Hamele over the right pad. Dan Carney followed with a goal at 12:45 to boost Roanoke’s lead to three goals, but 21 seconds later Jacina fed a wide-open Jonathan Gagnon to get the Lynx back into the game at 5-3. Jarrett Thompson also added an assist on the goal. Rob Snowball rounded out the period scoring for the Express, beating Hamele with a slap shot from the right wing that found the net to make it 6-3 Express after two periods of play. In the third, Jason Saal replaced Hamele in net for Augusta, but was greeted with the seventh Roanoke goal at 1:10 by Andrew McPherson to make it 7-3 Express. Augusta would get back to within three goals when Sean O’Connor scored his second of the night from Goulet and Terry Marchant at 11:40, but Augusta would come no closer than the 7-4 final. Saal finished with five saves in the game, while Hamele took the loss with 18 stops. Jason Wolfe earned the win with 28 saves of his own. Also of note in the game, Blair Stayzer picked up a match penalty at 1:37 of the third period for intent to injure on Jonathan Gagnon of the Lynx. Gagnon was helped from the ice while Stayzer picked up a five minute major and game misconduct.

PAW PRINTS: THE OFFICIAL WEEKLY RELEASE OF THE AUGUSTA LYNX
Lynx Take Two Out Of Three On Weekend
The Augusta Lynx continued their winning ways this weekend, taking two out of three games on the road with wins in Greenville Friday and Florence Saturday. 3/26 Augusta 5 @ Greenville 3 Greenville’s Mark Concannon gave his team the only lead of the game early on, but Augusta came back for three goals from Jarrett Thompson, Terry Marchant, and Sean O’Connor to forge a 3-1 lead. Mike Nelson and Concannon’s second goal of the game tied things at 3-3, but last in the third period Augusta used a 5-on-3 power play advantage to score twice for a 5-3 final. Martin Lapointe notched the game winner and Thompson added his second of the game as an insurance marker. Jason Saal made 16 saves for the win. 3/27 Augusta 4 – Florence 3 (SO) A wild first period of scoring saw Florence open up a 3-2 lead on goals from Jeff Szwez, Vladimir Gusev, and Allan Sirois, while Augusta replied with markers from Greg Jacina and Darren Shakotko. Jacina would score his second of the game in the second period to tie the game at 3-3 and send it to overtime. Past the five minute OT and into the shootout, the Lynx finally broke the tie with Martin Lapointe’s shootout winner in round six for their first win in Florence since the 2001-02 Season. Jason Saal once again earned the win with 23 saves. 3/28 Augusta 4 @ Roanoke 7 Augusta opened the scoring just 54 seconds into the contest when Sean O’Connor potted his first of two goals on the night. Greg Jacina made it 2-1 Lynx later in the period, but Augusta would relinquish the lead and never get it back after that point. O’Connor’s second goal of the game combined with Jonathan Gagnon’s marker finished the scoring for the Lynx. Will Hamele took the loss, making 18 saves over the first two periods, while Jason Saal came in to finish the game, allowing one goal on five shots over the third period.
