Baron played for the Blues between 1991-1996, and was a part of the Vancouver Canucks team that elminated the Blues in the first round of the playoffs last year. He finished the year with a +13 rating and averaged over 17 minutes per game. He will provide toughness for the Blues with Bryce Salvador expected to be out until mid-November while recovering from a wrist injury. Baron will provide the strong, aggressive in-your-face approach to the game that the Blues' defense has lacked in recent years. When Salvador returns, the Blues will have a surplus of capable blueliners. This could lead to a trade later in the season, or the Blues might just keep them all to provide depth for a playoff run. The Blues have won three games in a row after losing to the Dallas Stars. They defeated the Nashville Predators 4-1, shut down the Chicago Blackhawks 3-1, and whitewashed the Minnesota Wild 2-0. Only two games are left in the preseason for the Blues. They take on the Columbus Bluejackets this upcoming Friday and then play the Predators the next day. Captain Al MacInnis and winger Dallas Drake each scored a goal in their first game back versus the Predators after sitting out the beginning of the preseason . Defenseman Murry Baron and forward Eric Nikulas also scored for the Blues. Chris Osgood was steady and only gave up a single goal late in the game to lose his shutout. The next day Brent Johnson was also steady in his first preseason game, and he gave up just one goal to the Blackhawks to gain the win. Ryan Johnson, who has been one of the top forwards recently, scored the game winning goal early in the third period. The defense continued to chip in offensively, with Alexander Khavanov chipping in the Blues' first goal. Chris Pronger had not played in a preseason game since injuring his knee on September 15th, and Cajanek was injured five days after Pronger. Both players returned for the Blues' game against the Minnesota Wild. Chris Osgood kept up his superb preseason by recording 21 saves to record the shutout. Scott Mellanby and Mark Rycroft provided all the offense the team needed.
