Vladimir Kramnik in interview with John Henderson Born in the quiet, sleepy town of Tuapse, one of the most southerly towns in the Black Sea coast of the former Soviet Union, Vladimir Kramnik, from the early age of four, showed great promise at chess despite no one in his house able to teach him. Lord Rennell of Rodd The Scotsman Miguel Illescas and his uncle Antonio who acted as cook during the match. Big Brother Bareev and Lautier Kramnik with his prize First of all, Vladimir, congratulations on a superb match! At what point in your mind did you think you could really become the World Champion? At Wijk aan Zee you admitted you were tired and lacked energy. When you came to London it was clear that you had lost a lot of weight and looked much fitter. What did you do to achieve this? Did you have a personal physical trainer? Now this brings me neatly to another topic of interest with your past workings with Kasparov. Do you think that it was a sort of world championship suicide on his part to allow you to be his second against Anand in 1995?

QUICKVOTE Will world chess champion Vladimir Kramnik beat the Deep Fritz computer?
Yes No VIEW RESULTS It is a battle between human creativity and the monstrous calculating power of the machine. Vladimir Kramnik MANAMA, Bahrain World chess champion Vladimir Kramnik says he is ready to take on super-computer Deep Fritz, but accepts his "monstrous" challenger has the edge. The eight-game contest comes five years after IBM computer Deep Blue beat then-world champion Garry Kasparov the first time since the invention of a chess program in 1958 that a machine had beaten a human. IBM later cancelled the Deep Blue project and the program is no longer available for competition so Kramnik will meet the Deep Fritz CD-ROM application in the first match in Bahrain on Friday. The program can plot three million moves a second while Kramnik is capable of just one. The match, which is backed by Bahraini royalty, will be lucrative whatever the result. Kramnik will get U.S. $1 million if he wins, $800,000 if the match is drawn, and $600,000 if he loses.

Associations News 2003 Vladimir Kramnik's official announcement Keeping in mind the current situation in the chess world I consider it important to state my position. At the present time I am engaged with the preparation for the Classical World Chess Championship match with the official challenger Peter Leko. We came to an agreement concerning all conditions and regulations for our match. Now we are at the final stage of negotiations with the potential sponsor. An official announcement will follow after signing the agreements. Based on my rights from the contract with Einstein Group PLC I sent a termination document to the company in the beginning of August 2003. The reason for this was the company's failure to fulfill the main contract obligation - organization of the Classical World Chess Championship match by June 30, 2003. At the moment I do not have any contractual relations either with the Einstein Group or with FIDE. I also did not authorize these organizations to hold negotiations on my behalf. All the announcements concerning my match with Peter Leko in Buenos Aires are far from reality. I regret that the match between Ruslan Ponomariov (FIDE World Champion) and Gary Kasparov (FIDE challenger), will not take place. All this leads to a halt of the chess world reunion that was initiated by the Prague unity agreement.

Vladimir Kramnik
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
Vladimir Kramnik (born June 25 ) is a Russian chess player. In , he beat Garry Kasparov in a 16 game match played in London . In the eyes of the participants and many observers, this was a match for the world championship, and made Kramnik the chess world champion , although the International Chess Federation (FIDE) did not recognise the match as such. Kramnik was born in the town of Tuapse , on the shores of the Black Sea . As a child, he studied in the chess school established by Mikhail Botvinnik . His first notable result in a major tournament was his gold medal win as first reserve for the Russian team in the 1992 Chess Olympiad in Manila . His selection for the team caused some controversy in Russia at the time, as he was only sixteen years old and had not yet been awarded the grandmaster title, but his selection was supported by Garry Kasparov. He went on to win eight games, draw one, and lose none. The following year, Kramnik played in the very strong tournament in Linares . He finished fifth, beating the then world number three
