After capturing the gold medal in the inaugural Pan American Games, the United States entered the 1955 Games at Mexico City, Mexico, eager to repeat. Although the USA suffered its first defeat in Pan American competition, the team regrouped and won its final three games to capture the 1955 gold medal.

Venezuela (0-5) *Final standings determined by point differential between tied teams. As was the case in 1951, selection of the 1955 USA Pan American Games basketball team was again no easy task. Originally, the U.S. Olympic Committee announced that the 1955 Pan American Games team would consist of five AAU players, four college players and five players from the Armed Forces. But because of the game's March competition dates, college student-athletes could not compete. Instead, the U.S. Olympic Committee decided that the 1955 team would consist of seven players from the AAU and seven players from the U.S. Armed Forces. The 1954 AAU champion Peoria Caterpillars were unavailable because they were representing the USA at the 1955 World Championship, so the 1954 AAU runner-up Grihalva Buicks of San Diego, California, were chosen. A camp featuring 20 of the Armed Forces' top players was held at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (OH) to determine the Armed Forces' seven players.

LeBron voted top rookie TOM WITHERS; The Associated Press CLEVELAND - More than 45 minutes late to a news conference, LeBron James was one teen who didn't need an excuse. He's exhausted. "They had to drag me out bed to put this suit on," James said Tuesday, when he won the NBA Rookie of the Year award. "I didn't want to get out. I thought I was going to practice when they woke me up this morning." Hey, saving the Cleveland Cavaliers is hard work, and the 19-year-old James put the final touch on a remarkable season by becoming the rookie award's youngest recipient. "I knew I would make an impact this year," said James, who easily beat Denver's Carmelo Anthony, also 19. "And I guess I did." The 6-foot-8 guard made the jump from preps to pros look easy, somehow living up to the unprecedented hype. The No. 1 overall draft choice did more than just post jaw-dropping statistics game after game: He transformed Gund Arena into a hot spot, and he gave Cleveland fans reason to hope. "He proved to all of us that he is up for a challenge. He exceeded all of our expectations and just kept raising the bar," Cavaliers owner Gordon Gund said.

Sell Tickets Welcome to Coast to Coast Tickets, your best source for Cavaliers tickets! In the late 1800s, Cleveland's Central Market area where Gund Arena stands today was the center of the city, a residential neighborhood and busy bazaar just a few blocks from the growing commercial district of Public Square. A gathering spot rich with history, sadly, the life of the Central Market was cut short in the 1940s when it was destroyed by fire. Groundbreaking at the corner of Huron and Ontario roads, in the heart of downtown Cleveland, on what is now "Gateway," a 28-acre sports and entertainment complex made up of Gund Arena, its next-door neighbor Jacobs Field home of the Cleveland Indians and Gateway Plaza took place April 27, 1992. The Cleveland Cavaliers came to Ohio in 1970. Since then, they have played host to some great NBA stars. Ron Harper averaged nearly 20 points a game while wearing a Cavalier's uniform. The "Reign Man" Shawn Kemp collected rebounds and had his career high scoring average as a Cavalier. Big man Brad Daugherty, drafted number one in the 1986 draft, is the team's all time leader in points and rebounds. He was universally regarded as the best Cavalier ever. Then came LeBron. Click here to find Cavaliers tickets The Cleveland Cavaliers are a team geared towards the future, not the past. The biggest event in Cavalier history was by far the drafting of LeBron James in 2003. James, perhaps the most highly touted high school basketball star ever, was the prized jewel of his draft class. James became an instant basketball icon, and ticket sales soared from the moment he was signed. Everyone wants a chance to see this kid play. The organization hopes that his leadership, his celebrity, and most importantly his game can raise the Cavaliers to new heights.

Sports Tickets Cavaliers will finally get to see James on the court Now that Nike, HBO and MTV are out of the way, LeBron James has finally found time in his busy schedule for the Cleveland Cavaliers. James, traveling coast-to-coast like a pro player the past few weeks, will work out Friday for the Cavaliers, who will make the Akron high school superstar the No. 1 overall pick in next week's NBA draft. Betting exchange. Other commitments his graduation ceremony as well as trips to the league's pre-draft camp in Chicago, Nike's offices in Oregon and for TV interviews in New York have preoccupied the 6-foot-8 James, and so far prevented him from working out for the Cavaliers since they won the May 22 draft lottery.
But this week, James is setting aside some time for the team. On their fourth-floor practice court at Gund Arena, the team and new Cleveland coach Paul Silas will get to see James in person, and on the basketball court. ``That's the game plan,'' general manager Jim Paxson said Wednesday. Betting exchange. It's hard to imagine that anything the Cavaliers see will change their minds on draft day.

"I have to get used to this." After logging seven scoreless minutes in the first half, Boykins led the way in the third quarter.

... Ball Hits A-Rod in Face During Boston Game CLEVELAND (AP) - In a season of amazing achievement, LeBron James reached a new high. Put simply, he played his finest game when his team needed it the most. If the Cleveland Cavaliers go on to qualify for the playoffs for the first time since 1997, many will point to this performance as the reason why.
Breaking out of a personal slump, James took over in the fourth quarter Saturday night and carried a team that had forgotten how to win, willing the Cavs past the New Jersey Nets 107-104.
"I had to turn it to another gear," James said after producing 41 points and 13 assists.

Knight Ridder LeBron James
If nothing else, it was The Second Greatest Show on Earth. The Cirque du LeBron, featuring that daring young man flying around without a net. "That," Paul Silas says, "is exactly what it was, a circus." His life has been in order for a long time. figure There never was a question Cleveland would draft him first, but nobody knew exactly how James, 18 at the time and already famous and incredibly rich through a $90 million Nike grant, would react to the attention and rigors of the NBA, which is more grind than glamour. "It was the most unbelievable media blitz and scrutiny I've seen in my 35-plus years in the league," says Silas, 60. "I've never seen anything like it. It was mayhem at times. "With the kids, especially. We'd get to hotels at 2 in the morning and there would be 30 to 40 kids waiting for LeBron's autograph. When we got to Philadelphia, we were left off down below and the fans couldn't get to us. They were up on top of the ramp looking over as we got off the bus. They were lowering LeBron James jerseys on ropes for him to autograph. They were ingenious."
