Sporting News, The
Jan 26, 2004 by Sean Deveney
In Brad Miller's nightmare, he is back in the land of cramped condos and never-ending traffic jams. It's cold and windy. There's no space, no fresh air and certainly no place where a self-respecting, country music-loving Indiana boy can pack a chunk of Skoal into his lower lip without drawing gasps and frowns from the genteel locals. In this nightmare, his teammates are young and clueless, his uniform is red and his coach isgaspTim Floyd. He's back in Chicago. Sweet mother of mercy, not Chicago! There, there, Brad. It's only a dream.

MINNEAPOLIS - Sam Cassell was clutch once again, and the Minnesota Timberwolves salvaged a split at home in their Western Conference semifinal series. Cassell scored eight points in the final three minutes, Kevin Garnett had 28 points and 11 rebounds and the Timberwolves closed the game with a 16-1 run to beat the Sacramento Kings, 94-89, last night. Game 3 is tomorrow night at raucous Arco Arena, where Minnesota was the only visitor this season to win twice. The Kings, though, have won eight of their last nine playoff games at home and are 138-26 there during the last four regular seasons. Peja Stojakovic had 26 points and seven rebounds for Sacramento, which wasted a late 10-point lead. The Kings, after trailing the majority of the game, used a 16-2 spurt to go up 88-78 on Doug Christie's layup with 4:11 left in the game. Cassell, who had been quiet most of the game after scoring 40 points in a Game 1 loss, was squarely behind the Minnesota rally in finishing with 19 points. His jumper in the lane with 2:08 left pulled the Wolves to 88-87. Garnett, fouled by Brad Miller on a loose-ball scramble that knocked over referee Sean Corbin, made two free throws to give Minnesota the lead with 1:45 remaining.

BOYS BASKETBALL NEWS Back to News Articles Midway Boys Open Basketball Season By Amanda Thompson The Midway boys started off the 2002-2003 season with a clean slate. With only one returning varsity starter and a new coach the Eagles hope to build a new team with fairly inexperienced players.
Head coach Troy Hoffman said, "I hope to build the best defensive team in the area. We're hoping to bring the younger players around who haven't ever played varsity and get into a position to have a great season."
The team will look for senior Brandon Winchester to lead the team for points this year. Brandon Boos, David Scholz, Garett Miller, and Brad Clark will also be key players to the team this year.
“I think the younger players really stepped up and played hard and I’m looking forward to a winning season,” said senior Brandon Winchester.
The Eagles opened the season with the Bern Tournament on Dec. 5-7. Midway beat the Axtell Eagles in double over-time with the final score of 73-70. Winchester led the team with 32 points, junior David Scholz had 20 points including 4 three-point shots, and junior Brandon Boos had 19 points. In the second game
