G ame seven of the 1970 NBA Finals will always be remembered for the New York Knicks' Willis Reed limping onto the court. However, had it not been for Walt Frazier, the Knicks' flashy little guard, it would've been a different story. Frazier put up 36 points and 19 assists to lead the Knicks to victory. Frazier was born on March 29, 1945, in Atlanta, Georgia. Growing up, Frazier loved to play sports, and was always the leader. In baseball, he played catcher, in football, he was the quarterback, and in basketball, he was the point guard. He was an excellent high school quarterback, and also an excellent basketball player. He received many offers from colleges to play football, but instead chose to play basketball at Southern Illinois. There he was coached by Jack Hartman, a defensive-minded coach. Under Hartman, he polished the defensive skills that would make him so famous later on. His junior year, he led his team to the National Invitational Tournament (NIT), where he was named the tournament's MVP. It was there that Red Holzman, who would later coach Frazier, first saw him play. Walt was selected sixth overall by the Knicks in the 1967 draft, signing for a $25,000 contract with a $25,000 signing bonus. Compared to today's contracts, that's petty cash.

Just For Men Haircolor Gets a Stylish and Legendary New Look
Basketball Great Walt "Clyde" Frazier Lends His Face to Makeover Just For Men Haircolor Packaging
PITTSBURGH (December 19, 2002) - Basketball hall-of-famer and sports analyst, Walt Frazier, is known for his cool and flamboyant style both on and off the court. This Spring, fans and consumers alike will be able to bring home "Clyde's" legendary look, as he will become the new model for the Natural Jet Black shade of Just For Men Mustache, Beard and Sideburn Brush-In Color Gel. Why Walt?
Walt Frazier’s sense of style and popularity among 35- to 64-year-old men made him a perfect pick to pose for the new box. “Mr. Frazier is not only one of the most successful basketball players of all-time, he is also a man that has prided himself on always looking good, staying fit and remaining youthful,” said Michael Wendroff, vice president of haircare marketing, Combe, Incorporated. “We hope that by using his image on our box, we can convince others to join the growing throng of men now using haircolor.” "Colorful" Commentary
Frazier, a long-time user of the Just For Men Natural Jet Black Mustache, Beard and Sideburn Brush-In Color Gel, is honored to be featured on the new packaging. He is even quoted on the box, using some of his infamous rhyming: "Don't look antiquated, get rejuvenated;" "The look is realistic and using it is simplistic;" "It makes me elated…gets the gray in my beard eradicated;" and "Looks cool…keeps on making the ladies drool."

Search for another speaker Walt Frazier Category: New York Sports Personality, New York Sports Hero, Personal Appearance, Corporate Meet and Greets, Client Functions, Basketball, Broadcasters In brief Walt Frazier, better known as "Clyde Cool" to his fans, retired from a colorful basketball career after the 1978-79 season. The nickname "Clyde" was bestowed upon him because his 1930's-style attire reminded a teammate of Clyde Barrow's dress and because Walt "stole" basketballs the way Clyde robbed banks. Fee Range: Please contact us for fee info
"Cool" was added because of his demeanor both on and off the court. During the ten years he spent in New York City playing with the Knickerbockers, Frazier became known for his flashy style. His wardrobe included dozens of suits, shirts, shoes, and hats, as well as a full-length mink coat. His image earned him the Esquire's Best-Dressed Jock award, and Pageant named him one of America's ten sexiest athletes. The oldest of nine children, Frazier grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. Walt Frazier developed his athletic abilities in high school there, catching for the baseball team, quarterbacking for the football team, and playing guard on the basketball team. Two universities offered him scholarships to play football, but Frazier opted to accept a basketball scholarship at the University of Southern Illinois. After three years of college. Frazier dropped out to accept a $100,000 contract with the Knicks, who picked him in the first round of the 1967 draft.

He played for 10 seasons (1968-1977) with the New York Knicks, was voted to the NBA All-Star and All-Star defensive teams for seven straight years and was the All-Star team's MVP in 1975. Known for his distinctive style on and off the court, "Cool Clyde" is best remembered for his performance on the 1970 and 1973 Knicks championship teams. Frazier officially retired in 1979, and was elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts, on May 5, 1987. These days, Frazier is using his celebrity for a good cause and one with a personal investment. He's going to raise money for his own charity, the Walt Frazier Youth Foundation, which helps students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds gain experience in the workforce. Men can help Frazier in one of two ways. Frazier will be onsite at the Hoop-It-Up finals in New York on September 21 and will host the Just For Men Haircolor "Play Away the Gray" Three-Point Shoot-Out, open to men of all ages.
