Hoops still big part of ex-Wildcat's life

The Courier-Journal
Anthony Epps has enjoyed several nice moments during his basketball career, but perhaps none of his memories are more special than those he made in March. Ten years ago this month Epps led Marion County High School to the state tournament title. In March 1996, Epps and his University of Kentucky teammates began their march to the NCAA championship. ''Basketball has been great to me,'' Epps said. ''My life has been been like a dream come true. I think there are probably a lot of people that would like to trade places with me.'' He still is playing basketball these days, running the point for the Louisville Eagles of the new United Pro Basketball League. In December, he moved from Lebanon, Ky, to take over as the athletic director of the Kentuckiana Boys and Girls Club of Jeffersonville (Ind.).

Published: 05.06.2004 Greg Hansen: Even mighty Duke feels effect Greg Hansen On this side of the college basketball map, the lure of the NBA reached its most defining level when Casey Jacobsen, Jason Collins and Curtis Borchardt, all on target to get a Stanford degree, left school for the NBA draft between 2001 and 2002. None became a lottery pick. None has become a star or a even a full-time starter. Yet their cumulative salaries this season amounted to $3.4 million. Two years from now, the three former Cardinal standouts are guaranteed a combined payout of $6.4 million. The oldest of the three, Collins, is a mere 25. So you tell me: Was it the right decision to bolt school?

Calling the Shots

Greg Anthony has a big mouth. Just ask anyone who played against him. COLUMN: Joe Hawk Batteries and cell phones may break their bones, but words will never hurt them? Bull! SPORTS DIGEST Sports Letters Sure things often go other way in betting To the sports editor: I bet $10,000 on the Timberwolves solely because of Joe Hawk's strong recommendation to bet the Lakers (April 22). UNLV's Rice eager to recruit, teach It stands to reason that anyone who has been an assistant to five head basketball coaches would've done a lot of moving around. Calling the Shots Greg Anthony has a big mouth. Just ask anyone who played against him. Or with him. The former UNLV standout guard is forging a niche talking about basketball.
