Ted Williams Quotations From Ted Williams "A kid copies what is good. I remember the first time I saw Lefty O'Doul , and he was as far away as those palms. And I saw the guy come to bat in batting practice. I was looking through a knothole, and I said, 'Geez, does that guy look good!' And it was Lefty O'Doul , one of the greatest hitters ever.'' in The Sporting News "All managers are losers, they are the most expendable pieces of furniture on the face of the Earth." "A man has to have goals - for a day, for a lifetime - and that was mine, to have people say, 'There goes Ted Williams , the greatest hitter who ever lived.'" "Baseball gives every American boy a chance to excel, not just to be as good as someone else but to be better than someone else. This is the nature of man and the name of the game.

TOPPS Baseball Cards In 1952, Topps came out with the largest baseball card set of the time. There were a total of 407 cards to the set. The set was issued in two series. The first series were numbered 1-310 and the second series were numbered 311-407. ( Series and Prints (Checklist) Developed by Sy Berger , the Topps 1952 set was made up of the first " modern baseball card, " complete with player image, team logo, vital statistics, and a full playing record. The cards measured 2 5/8 in. x 3 3/4 in. and featured colorized black and white photos of the players. Although Berk Ross came out with a 1952 Joe DiMaggio card, Joe had announced his retirement prior to the start of production on the 1952 Topps cards, so he is not included in the 1952 Topps set. Joe DiMaggio
Roy Campanella ( card # 314 ), Pee Wee Reese ( card # 333 ), Hoyt Wilhelm ( card # 392 ), Bill Dickey ( card # 400 ). Because of other contractural obligations, two of the biggest names in baseball are missing from the set, Ted Williams and Stan Musial.

Williams' son, John Henry Williams, had his father placed in cryonic suspension, a deep-freezing process done in hopes that future scientific advances will restore the dead to life. But contrary to recent news reports, Williams' body is not resting upside down in a liquid nitrogen tank at Alcor. Instead, reports Verducci, his head sits on a shelf in a liquid nitrogen-filled steel can, while his body is in the same room, stored upright in a liquid nitrogen-filled, nine-foot-tall cylindrical steel tank.

Ted Williams' body now resides in a cryonic warehouse at Alcor Life Extension Foundation in Scottsdale, Ariz., moved there by the son because, as Dan Shaughnessy, columnist for The Boston Globe said: "There are only two ways to think of this: Best case The son is in denial and thinks he can bring his father back to life. Worst case John Henry hopes to profit from prospective cloning or DNA distribution." "Ted Williams was a private person in life, and in death he wished to remain private," Eric Abel, Williams' attorney, said in a statement. "He did not wish to have any funeral or funeral services."

Home runs t-13th RBIs Runs By the Numbers All-Time Stats The .400 Season Game-by-Game Multimedia Video Plus Archive By Jim Huber, CNNSI.com Imagine Ted Williams gone. It's nearly impossible, isn't it? Disappeared perhaps, for he loved to do that. Quietly leaving us for some deserted fishing hole. But gone completely? Why, that's impossible. He was, after all, Teddy Ballgame. The Splendid Splinter. As close to Superman as anybody from this planet who had ever put on a baseball uniform. That he could be vulnerable seemed ludicrous, though his decline in recent years had become public knowledge, surgery to reduce blockage in a neck artery beginning his slide. In our minds, he never seemed a day over 30. Tough as nails and surely able to slip right back into a batting box and hit .400 again today. The Hall of Famer played his entire magnificent career with the Boston Red Sox from 1939 through 1960. A lifetime average over those 19 years of .344, the centerpiece, of course, 1941 when he became the last major leaguer to hit over .400. He finished at .406.
