Reggie Jackson earned the nickname "Mr. October" for his World Series heroics with both the A's and Yankees. In 27 Fall Classic games, he amassed 10 home runs — including four in consecutive at-bats — 24 RBI and a .357 batting average. As one of the game's premier power hitters, he blasted 563 career round-trippers, sixth on the all-time list. A terrific player in the clutch and an intimidating clean-up hitter, Jackson compiled a lifetime slugging percentage of .490 and earned American League MVP honors in 1973. REGGIE JACKSON
Over 16 seasons (1971-1986), Jackson's teams played in 17 post-season series, winning five World Series titles. He won the home run title for three teams and provided some of the most dramatic home runs in history. An egotistical superstar, Jackson offended teammates, opponents, fans, and owners, but always made sure to get along with the press. He saved his worst behavior for his managers, especially Billy Martin, with whom he had a love/hate relationship.

The baseball career of Reggie Jackson
Though very outspoken and opinionated, Reggie Jackson usually let his bat do the talking, accumulating 563 homeruns in a hall of fame career.
Unlike many professional baseball players who spend years in the minors before being promoted to the parent club, Reggie Jackson (son of Negro League player Martinez Jackson) wasted no time making a name for himself in the big leagues. Jackson, an outstanding football and baseball player at Arizona State, was drafted by the Kansas City Athletics in 1966. He was on the Athletics roster in 1967, a rising superstar when the team moved to Oakland in 1968 (29 bodyOffer(18589) HR, 74 RBI), and a full-fledged superstar in 1969, leading the American League with a .608 slugging percentage and 123 runs scored. From 1971 - 1975, Jackson led the As to five straight Western Division titles, including three consecutive World Series wins from 1972 - 1974. He hit 32 homeruns in 1971, and matched that total in 1973, the year he won the American Leagues Most Valuable Player award. In 1976, when the team was broken up due to free agency, Jackson signed with Baltimore. After one season, he moved onto the New York Yankees where he earned the nickname Mr. October, hitting three homeruns in game six of the 1977 World Series. While he often clashed with manager Billy Martin and owner George Steinbrenner

    Jackson, Reggie,
Jackson Rick Stewart/Allsport byname of REGINALD MARTINEZ JACKSON (b. May 18, 1946, Wyncote, Pa., U.S.), professional American League baseball player. Jackson was encouraged in sports by his Spanish father and became a star athlete at Cheltenham (Pa.) High School, excelling in track and football as well as baseball, in which he was a good pitcher as well as a hitter. He batted and threw left-handed. He continued his athletic career at Arizona State University (Tempe), but after two years he became a professional baseball player. He played with Kansas City Athletics farm teams (1967-68) and joined the Athletics in 1968 when the team moved to Oakland, Calif., remaining with the team through the 1975 season. He made his mark as a home-run hitter and was also an exceptional base runner and a good outfielder, particularly on balls that were hard to play. He led the league in home runs (1973, 1975). Playing on the World Series-winning Athletics (1972-74), Jackson in the 1973 World Series batted .310, drove in all three runs as Oakland won the sixth game, and hit a two-run homer in the decisive seventh game. In 1976 he was traded to the Baltimore Orioles, and in 1977 as a free agent he signed a five-year contract with the New York Yankees for nearly $3 million. He led the league in home runs in 1980. In the final game of the 1977 World Series, he hit three consecutive home runs and drove in five runs as the Yankees won 8 to 4. In the 1978 World Series he hit .391 and two home runs. From 1973 he played mainly as a designated hitter (not playing in the field).
