Gibson was Series-ously successful

When it came to winning "the big game," there were few pitchers who compared with Bob Gibson. As outstanding as the St. Louis Cardinals' scowling right-hander was at other times, he was at his most ferocious when the spotlight shined brightest. Batters didn't enjoy this view while Bob Gibson was putting together a career in which he was 251-174 with a 2.91 ERA ... and even better in the postseason. Twice in the 1960s, this fierce competitor won the seventh game of the World Series (and he might have done it a third time if not for a misjudged fly ball). He holds Series records for winning seven consecutive games and pitching eight straight complete games. And nobody has ever struck out as many batters in a Series game (17) or in a Series (35). Not that the intense Gibson was a slouch in the regular season. One doesn't get into the Hall of Fame just for October successes. In a 10-year stretch, Gibson averaged 19 wins a season. In a six-year period, he was a 20-game winner five times (the only time he missed was when he was sidelined two months in 1967 after taking a Roberto Clemente line drive off one of his legs). And there was that marvelous year of 1968 when Gibson entered the record book for compiling a 1.12 earned-run average, the lowest number by a National League pitcher in modern times. The 6-foot-1, 190-pounder threw 13 shutouts, five consecutively, and in one 92-inning stretch he allowed only two earned runs. He won the MVP and the first of his two Cy Young Awards that season.

Keeping a foot on the pitcher's rubber at the center of the pitcher's mound, which is 60 feet 6 inches from home plate , the pitcher throws the baseball to the catcher, who is positioned behind home plate and catches the ball. Meanwhile, a batter stands in the batter's box at one side of the plate, and attempts to bat the ball safely into fair play. Commonly, the object of any pitch is to either pitch the ball into the strike zone without the batter swinging, or pitch the ball such that the batter swings and doesn't make contact, although this object may change given particular situations in the game or certain match-ups.

Here are Bob Gibson posters and photos now being auctioned off at eBay . This is about the best place we've found for getting the poster you want at the right price. If there are no listings above, it could be that nobody is selling them right now, but it could also be a bug in the search. You may want to click over and search for his name, and/or number 45, and/or for the Cardinals. If you still can't find the Bob Gibson poster you're looking for, you could ask in the Cardinals discussion forum if anybody else knows who sells them. By the way, if you're looking to sell a Bob Gibson poster , good old eBay is probably still your best bet. Thanks to eBay's extremely active sports memorabilia auctions, it's easy for anyone to auction off their baseball posters, photos, and other collectibles without a dealer getting in the middle and taking 50%. Click here for eBay , or eBay Canada , if that's where you're located. Sincerely

The Baseball Assistance Team is primarily a group of major league baseball players united to help members of the baseball "family" who have fallen upon hard times. This "family" is comprised of all players, managers and coaches with so little as one day of major league service. It also includes widows of these professionals, as well as players with a minimum of four years of minor league service; umpires; scouts and front office players; players from the old Negro leagues and their widows.
From its founding in 1986, through the 1990 season, B.A.T. relied upon the generosity of The Equitable through the Old-Timers series. For the next five seasons, The Upper Deck Company continued staging games featuring former players, with proceeds going to B.A.T.
The Bob Gibson All-Star Classic is the newest vehicle raising funds for this family.
