World War II was the The Beast jimmie foxx, the slugging is the letter from Nixonto foxx s daughter, Nancy he had chosen her father as baseball s best first
    http://www.sethsroom.com/letters6a.htm
Richard Nixon's Letter to Jimmie Foxx's daughter President Richard Nixon was known to have drawn up an 'enemies' list during his presidency, but he also made an extremely well-thought out list of who he considered the greatest baseball players of all-time. A week before the Watergate break-in, in 1972, President Richard Nixon sat down with his son-in-law, David Eisenhower and picked what he thought were the greatest players in history. When they had chosen those players, the President had a gold booklet made up that named his picks. His choice as the greatest first baseman pre-World War II was the "The Beast" Jimmie Foxx, the slugging Philadelphia A's first baseman. Foxx died in the mid-1960s. This is the letter from Nixon to Foxx's daughter, Nancy Canaday, informing her that he had chosen her father as baseball's best first baseman.

Youngest Active Player Chronology When Hall-of-Famer Harry Wright played his first game of the 1871 season on May 5, 1871, he became the oldest person to ever play major league baseball. That's not to say that nobody ever took the field who was older than Wright's thirty-six. Rather, no player who was born earlier than Wright has ever played in the majors. Even with expansion, it's unlikely that Wright's record will be broken. As far as I know, there isn't a person alive who was born earlier than January 10, 1835. Pitcher Fred Chapman was the youngest player to make his debut (14 years 7 months 29 days). But the youngest person to ever play baseball keeps changing. At the end of the 1998 season, that distinction belongs to Pirates thirdbaseman Aramis Ramirez. Born June 25, 1978, he's more than a year younger than Kerry Wood and almost a month younger than Mike Caruso. No doubt, someone younger than Ramirez will make their major league debut sometime next year. One of the reasons this list is interesting is it helps to answer a question I'm frequently asked "who was the first person to reach the majors who was younger than me?" If you were born on June 1, 1969, the answer is Ken Griffey. Here's the list of players who have held the title "Baseball's Youngest Player." From 1932 to 1940, he was simply one of the American League's most dominating players. In that span, he won the AL MVP three times (1932, 1933 and 1938), finished second in 1939 and finished in the top 10 in voting 1934 and 1940. He was an All-Star every year from 1933-1941, he reached the Triple Crown in 1933, led the league in batting again in 1938, and led the AL in home runs four times. In 1932, he came close to Babe Ruth's mark, hitting 58. He hit 30 or more home runs in 12 consecutive seasons and became only the second player in history to reach the 500 home run mark. Foxx debuted with the Philadelphia Athletics in 1925 at the age of 17. According to his obituary, Foxx was discovered by Hall of Famer Frank "Home Run" Baker who urged Philadelphia to give Foxx a chance. By 1928, he was becoming a major part of the offense, hitting .328 with 13 home runs and 79 RBI. In 1929, Foxx, just 21, exploded onto the scene with 33 home runs and 118 RBI. He did not drive in less than 100 runs again until 1942.

MANNY RAMIREZ BASEBALL'S BEST CLUTCH HITTER Over the last three seasons, right-handed slugger has averaged better than an RBI per game DENNIS ECKERSLEY BEAT THE rest of New England to the "Wow" with Manny Ramirez. That was the Eck's reaction when Ramirez, seemingly using an eyelet from his shoelaces as a batting tee, ripped a low, inside pitch from the Red Sox reliever just inside the left-field foul pole in Fenway Park, producing a ninth-inning run that ultimately proved to be a game-winner during the 1998 playoffs. It's not as if Sox fans weren't primed to fall in line behind Eckersley. It's just that after a spring training in which Ramirez was idled by a sore hamstring and hit just .154 with one home run, they were still in the "Show Me" stage when the 2001 season began. Ramirez, through the first two months of the season, carried the Red Sox offensewithout reigning two-time batting champ Nomar Garciaparraby hitting .383 (first in the A.L.) with 15 home runs (third in A.L.) and 56 RBI (first in A.L.).

Just one percent (1%) of those who have played Major League Baseball have a plaque in Cooperstown. Overall, 237 of the tens of thousands of individuals who have served the game as Major and Negro League players, managers, executives, pioneers and umpires have a permanent residence in the Hall of Fame Gallery.
