On July 25, George Brett was the very first Kansas City Royal ever to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame!
George Howard Brett made his Major League debut with the Kansas City Royals on August 2, 1973. During his 20 year professional career, he remained a Royal. Brett is the only player to win batting titles in three decades(l976,1980and 1990). He won the Rawlings Gold Glove award in 1985 as the league's top defensive 3rd baseman. In 1980, he became only the 17th player in major league history to eclipse the 100-RBI plateau and average at lest 1 RBI per game with 118 RBI in 117 games. He is the only player in history to have 3,000 hits, 300 home runs, 600 doubles, 100 triples and 200 stolen bases and joins Musial, Aaron, Mays, Yastrzemski, Kaline and Winfield as having 3,000 hits and 300 home runs. In 1993, good old "Number 5" was retired, and will never be worn again.
Celebrate Good Times, COME ON!!!
Kansas City will be holding constant celebrations and parties in honor of Mr. Brett's Hall of Fame Induction. Hall of Fame Induction

90. George Brett And His Work To Find A Cure For ALS - ALSA Midwest - Keith Worthing

chapter services news get involved contact the chapter ... News George Brett and the Keith Worthington Chapter
Hall of Famer George Brett has been working to raise awareness and funds for ALS since his rookie year in 1973 - more time than he spent on the baseball field. "I retired from the baseball field in 1993," says Brett. "But I won't retire from the fight against ALS until a cure is found. I made a promise to a friend, and I intend to keep it."
Involvement with the Chapter
That friend was Keith Worthington , the Vice President of Woolf Brothers Clothiers, who, in 1973, convinced the promising rookie to act as a spokesman for the clothing stores. Throughout the years, George's friendship with Keith, who had been diagnosed with ALS in 1973, led to his growing involvement with the Chapter.
Impact of the Promise
Brett's impact on the Chapter is considerable. His commitment gives hope to patients, spurs on volunteers and staff, and motivates donors. His golf tournaments and the auction chaired by his wife Leslie alone have raised millions. His 1992 drive to 3,000 hits and his 1993 retirement raised another $300,000 for the Chapter, and the celebrations surrounding his 1999 induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame raised another $3 million.

His fingerprint on Kansas City: Kids named Brett By JASON KING - The Kansas City Star
    Date: 07/24/99 22:30
For Curtis Bruning, girl problems in high school began with the radio in his gold 1972 LeMans. Seems Bruning, now 34, was determined to follow George Brett through each and every at-bat back in 1982. He never spun his tuner away from KKAN (1490 AM), home of the Kansas City Royals in his hometown of Phillipsburg, Kan. Bruning would drive around with his girlfriend and they'd listen to the Royals. On the way to dinner, to the movies, to a party. It was the Royals and Brett or nothing. Marcio Jose Sanchez/The Star There are many Kansas City area kids named after George Brett. Some of them posed in July with a life-sized cutout of Brett at Kauffman Stadium. "She always got mad at me because she wanted to listen to music," Bruning said. "But George Brett was the man. She just didn't understand that. I told her back then, though I was 17 that if I ever had a son, I was going to name him Brett." Eleven years later, on July 8, 1993, Bo Brett Bruning was born.

Brett honored the game with respect
Click here for more on this story Posted: Thursday July 22, 1999 10:08 PM George Brett enjoyed a glorious career, but he does have his regrets. Ken Levine/Allsport By Nick Charles, CNN/SI BASEBALL CITY, Fla. To George Howard Brett of the Kansas City Royals, baseball was much more than a sport. To Brett, it was a game to be played with tenacity, but also with joy which was evident from the smile that usually spread across his face when he took the field. "I'm not the fourth-best ballplayer to ever play the game, no way," he says. "That's absurd. How did I get 98 percent of the vote and be the fourth-highest vote-getter? It had to say something about the way you played the game. I played it with respect." Fellow Hall of Fame inductee, Robin Yount saw that respect first-hand.
