WOU athlete destined for diamond Western Oregon's Tucker Brack shines at the plate and in the field. REID ENGLISH Statesman Journal March 3, 2004 MONMOUTH  Tucker Brack is an example of someone born to be a baseball player. The experience of being around the sport his entire 22 years has been beneficial. Brack (pronounced Brock) has enjoyed success at many levels despite being smaller than most opponents. In his final year of competitive ball, he is a key player on the Western Oregon University team this season. When the Wolves (7-7 preseason) play a five-game series this weekend at Sonoma State, Brack will be hitting No. 3 in the lineup and leading the defense from second base. ÂTucker is a great player, said Terry Baumgartner, WOU coach. ÂHe's like a coach on the field. He knows what's going to happen. He only made two errors last season, which is surprising. As a hitter, he takes a good, solid ap-proach at the plate. He's got some pop for a little guy. Brack, 5-foot-9, 170 pounds, hit seven home runs and drove in 43 runs last season. He has a team-high 12 RBIs this season. ÂSize has never been that big of an issue, he said. ÂPeople look at me and don't expect me to hit home runs. I have fast hands that make a lot of difference by generating bat speed. | |
