67. Spin - 020701 - Smith; Hufnagel; Cunningham
Vikings RB robert smith told the Cleveland Plain Dealer that Buchsbaum (smith has)always been a different type a little differently than most football players
http://archive.profootballweekly.com/content/archives/features_2000/spin_020701.
Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001
Robert Smith John Hufnagel Gunther Cunningham ProFootballWeekly.com asks contributing editor Joel Buchsbaum for his thoughts on news from around the league.
Smith to retire?
Vikings RB Robert Smith told the Cleveland Plain Dealer that he plans to retire from the NFL. Smith didn’t give a reason for his decision, but previous reports have indicated that he has "grown tired of the injuries that go with the game," the Plain Dealer said. Smith played the first 16-game season of his career in 2000, but he underwent his third knee surgery last week. Smith led the NFC in rushing with 1,521 yards and ranks No. 1 in Vikings history with 6,818 yards. PFW: What do you make of the report? Buchsbaum: I thought it was a fantastic season until December. He seemed to slow down then. But until then, he was playing at an MVP-type level.
Colts hire Hufnagel
Head coach Jim Mora wanted his new QB coach to have experience and teaching skills. He believes he found those qualities in John Hufnagel, whom the Colts hired five days after losing former QB coach Bruce Arians to the Browns. Said Mora: "He came highly recommended by some people who have worked with him, who I have a lot of respect for." Hufnagel’s resume includes 15 seasons of pro football, three with the Broncos and 12 in the CFL. PFW: What do you know about Hufnagel?

Robert Smith Vs. Morrissey Feud mentioned again in NY Post posted by davidt on Tuesday April 13 2004, @09:30AM
Nine Times Fine writes:
Page 39 of today's New York Post dedicates almost an entire page to the ongoing (read: boring) Robert Smith Vs. Morrissey Feud.
Apparently, "Morrissey fans are less flamboyant [than Cure fans]. They're more bookish than vampire-like." So claims Marc Spitz from Spin Magazine anyway.
Of possible interest, the small inset photo of Morrissey looks like a still from the IBEH video shoot. I'm sure someone will manage to scan the whole thing in.
TrblLuvsMe also writes: I guess the press is low on news, but then again this IS the NY Post, drudging up old gossip . . . if you get a copy of today's NY Post, there are photos of both Moz and Bob, but unfortunately the online edition has no photos. CLASH OF THE BRITONS - NY Post. Excerpt: April 13, 2004 ROCK fans have been arguing about the Cure vs. the Smiths since the '80s, and with new albums due from the Cure and Morrissey, the debate isn't going to end anytime soon. You need no special hardware or software on your end! http://www.legendstalk.com/ Check out the new Robert Smith Foundation website. You can also find out how to contribute to the Foundation. The Star Tribune's editorial about Robert's retirement is right on the money: The Vikings have had talented runners over the years (Bill Brown, Dave Osborn, Ted Brown, Chuck Foreman), but No. 26 was the best ever to wear purple. Not only are his statistics tops in team history (6,818 yards, 32 touchdowns), but his style was as close to beautiful as football gets long, powerful strides, deceptive moves and breakaway speed. There was nothing quite like seeing Smith break into the secondary, juke a linebacker, evade a cornerback and outrun two safeties into the end zone. Then, instead of performing one of those in-your-face displays, he'd simply flip the ball to the ref and head for the sidelines with that boyish grin on his face. Fans got the impression that Smith saw football as a delight, not a macho crusade for self-worth. The last reporter to interview Robert before his retirement talks about it.
