Pulling a High-Tech Deion Sanders Move
November 13, 2003
By Jim Louderback
If Deion Sanders can do it, I can, too! ADVERTISEMENT "I could do a better job," claimed Sanders, and he offered his services to Falcons owner Arthur Blank as head coach. He's serious, even though he has zero coaching experience. Gosh darn it, I'm ready to take over a patsy and turn it into a winner. Hmmm. Who could use a swift kick in the pants out in the mobile and wireless market? Oh, yeah ... Microsoft! That's who. Did you see the recent story about turmoil in the mobile group? Juha Christensen, VP in charge of mobile marketing just pulled a Deion-style move. He up and quit, to start-up a mobile Web-services company in the valley. Microsoft's mobile initiatives remind me of Atlanta's season so far. It's lost almost every game it's been in: Windows Powered SmartPhone There are some very cool PDA/phone combos out there, including Samsung's i500, and the Treo 600. But while those companies sweep up with brawny offerings, the best Microsoft can do is trot out puny Sierra Wireless. A blow-out defeat.

Sanders' bodyguards and housekeepers then moved their cars in front of and behind the Lincoln so that it couldn't be towed back to the garage, the lawsuit stated. When Sanders drove up, he refused to pay the invoice amount, handing Compton a $1,500 check and saying, "Praise Jesus ... I follow what in my heart I'm told to pay.''

Dallas Cowboys cornerback Deion Sanders described how he attempted suicide last year when his marriage was crumbling, his father was dying and everything seemed to be falling apart. Sanders said he tried to kill himself about a year ago by driving his car off a cliff in Cincinnati, where he was playing baseball for the Reds. ''I attempted suicide, but God had his hands on me,'' Sanders said. ''I ran the car off the cliff, and it was like a 40 . . . 30-foot drop. The car went down and hit and there wasn't a scratch on me or on the car.'' Sanders estimated he was driving ''about 65 or 70 mph'' at the time. He said he turned his life around after the crash and now loves the Lord with all his heart. ''You try to fulfill your time and your needs,'' he said. ''I was just empty. I tried cars, jewelry, clothes, women, money. . . . Everything, nothing could fulfill me.''

A master punt returner, he holds the NFL record with 18 touchdowns scored on returns - punts (6), kickoffs (3), fumble recoveries (1) and interceptions (8). He is second in NFL history with eight career interception returns for touchdowns, trailing only Hall of Famer Ken Houston, who had nine. COLUMBUS While Ohio State safety Mike Doss has openly campaigned to play wide receiver, pestering his coaches for some action on offense, the Buckeye who has become a two-way star has left his actions speak louder than words. "He's real quiet; he doesn't say a lot," split end Michael Jenkins said of Chris Gamble, who has produced big plays as a receiver and cornerback for the unbeaten and fourth-ranked Buckeyes. "He just goes out there and performs."

Dallas' Deion not always 'Prime Time'
By Chad Anderson
Daily Egyptian Reporter
Attention all football fans! Contrary to popular belief, Deion Sanders plus Dallas does not equal an automatic Super Bowl victory. This may come as a shock to some, but "Neon" Deion is not the greatest thing to ever hit football (or even a baseball, for that matter). What Deion equals is a well marketed business-athlete. Seven years for $35 million. I think that speaks for itself. Whatever he's making with the San Francisco Giants is way too much. He's just another dime-a-dozen center fielder with speed, a two-something batting average, and the ability to track down flyballs. Think about it, and start counting the number of outfielders who can do that. Yes, "Prime Time" is a great player, but he is only as good as Emmitt Smith, Barry Sanders, Steve Young, or Jerry Rice are at their jobs. He is not the greatest thing God ever gave to football. The cornerback position is just one that hasn't been publicized by the media. As football history went on, Deion found football; and with his attitude and talent, he became the first highly talented, highly publicized player at that position. Just like Hack Wilson or Honus Wagner in baseball years ago. As a fan of Deion (yes, I said fan) I have to love to watch him play. He is by far the most entertaining player I have ever seen. My favorite: Deion on Monday night. The ultimate experience: Deion vs. Rice on Monday night.

BH: Do you remember the first fish you caught? DS: I sure do: a bluegill. My stepfather and I would just stop by the side of the road somewhere and throw out a line. Fishing is my therapy now. I get on the water and forget about everything. BH: What's your favorite kind of fishing? DS: I'm a bass maniac. There's a 10-acre bass lake right outside the house, and I hit it every day. My bread-and-butter lure is a 6-inch Zoom lizard in pumpkinseed. I love topwaters, too. Love to see that water blow up. BH: What tackle do you use? DS: I was a Zebco man for years. I just got into baitcasters in the past year. I'd go out every night to practice casting. Retirement has definitely helped my fishing. BH: Do you fish with your kids? DS: I've got four kids. Deion Jr. is 9 and he loves fishing. He and I talk and joke. And he knows when he gets a hit—he's got the feel. Shilo is 3, and he just caught his first fish. And my wife fishes. BH: Really? Your wife likes to fish?

Lance Armstrong, Performance Enhancing Drugs, and Deion Sanders's Retirement By Brian Carnell Tuesday, July 31, 2001 This weekend I happened to run across ABC News doing a brief bit about Lance Armstrong winning his third straight Tour de France. Of course they couldn't leave the topic without mentioning long-standing suspicions that Armstrong uses performance enhancing drugs. ABC falsely reported that Armstrong had flat-out said he doesn't use such drugs. But they were running clips from an interview in which Armstrong never actually says, "no, I don't use performance enhancing drugs," but rather dances around the issue by noting he's passed all his drug tests, he can look his family in the eye, etc. He's so good, that I don't think it would really matter whether he is or not (I doubt drugs can give him such a huge advantage in quantities that won't show up in a drug tests). But the thing I found strange was the cycling world's position on cortisone it's banned, except in very small amounts, by the Tour de France and other races. In fact the press freaked a few years ago when Armstrong tested positive for very small amounts of cortisone he'd used a cortisone cream to treat a minor injury, and the level in his system was only about 8 percent of the maximum level.

79. TWT 7/28 -- SKINS BEAT: Deion Was Treated Farily
Redskins treated sanders fairly Cornerback deion sanders didn’t want to play football. The Washington Redskins didn’t want him back.
http://www.webskins.org/TWT/0701/072803.html
Published in Washington, D.C. Sat., July 28, 2001 www.washingtontimes.com Redskins treated Sanders fairly     Cornerback Deion Sanders didn’t want to play football. The Washington Redskins didn’t want him back. After three months of staring down each other, both finally walked away. REDSKINS BEAT
Rick Snider     Sanders retired yesterday rather than report to the Redskins. He kept $7.5 million of his bonus. Washington prevented him from playing elsewhere and regained $500,000 of the bonus to save face.     It was a fair ending. The Redskins deserved something from Sanders, who acted in bad faith. Although the seven-year deal was really a two-year pact, Sanders didn’t even want to fulfill the second season.     Sanders put up a smoke screen, using former defensive coordinator Ray Rhodes’ departure as an excuse, but the latter was released upon request. Rhodes was treated fairly. As for not being consulted about Rhodes’ departure, who said the Redskins needed to discuss anything with him?     Sanders thought he could frustrate the Redskins into releasing him and rejoin Rhodes in Denver. Sanders said nasty things about coach Marty Schottenheimer’s character without meeting him.     The only problem was Sanders failed to remain in the major leagues, which would have kept him from reporting until October. Given that late date, the Redskins planned to cut Sanders after June 1, when his salary cap impact could have been spread over two years.
