For Janice Quinn, coaching NYU women’s basketball is only one of her interests, and winning the Division III championship is only one of her goals.
NYU’s strongest do battle
NYU students lined up yesterday at Coles Sports Center to participate in the 2003 Bench Press Challenge. NYC hoops phenom opts for Louisville In the wake of the LeBron James typhoon, it would seem obvious that this year’s ‘Chosen One’ would bypass college and jump straight to the NBA. Not so fast. Free tickets, free fights and fans still won’t come I’m going to put aside the video game talk for a little while and talk about something a little more pressing: NYU sports. Check in next time for a column about professional gaming. J! E! T! S! Suck! Suck! Suck! It's well into football season again, and what better way to create more tension and hatred between fans of the New York Jets and New York Giants than to pronounce which is the true New York team. Luckily for Giants fans like me, the Jets' rough 2-5 start is fueling my choice of the Giants as the team of the Big Apple. Every three years the Giants and Jets meet in the regular season. This season, they are scheduled to match up on Sunday Nov. 2, and all Jets fans look forward to a win over their hated rivals. But all the evidence points to the G-men as the dominating image of football in the tristate area, which will continue for years to come, barring any drastic measures, like moving to a warmer climate or greener pastures, i.e. the Cleveland Browns fiasco.

Namath incident not being kissed off
By Bill Griffith, Globe Staff, 12/23/2003 The only one unfazed by Saturday night's Joe Namath interview on ESPN was the party of the second part: sideline reporter Suzy Kolber. The interview took place just before halftime of the Patriots-Jets game, ESPN's ballyhooed 200th NFL telecast. It was both embarrassing and pathetic to see Namath, the Jets' all-time passing leader, throw two of the worst passes of his life, twice telling Kolber "I want to kiss you" during the conversation. ADVERTISEMENT Twenty-five years ago, "Broadway Joe" Namath might have gotten away with it; these days, Joe Namath couldn't. Kolber bailed out like a pro, shouting over the babbling Namath, "Thanks Joe. I'll take that as a huge compliment. Now back to you guys." Namath was on the field to be honored as part of the Jets' "Four Decades" all-time team at halftime at the Meadowlands. Namath had given a coherent, though seemingly slurred, answer to Kolber's first question about the Jets' Chad Pennington: "He's a quality, classy quarterback that has touch on the football. He's not a thrower, he's a quality passer. His mind is ahead of what the defense's is. If the Jets can support him they will win the championship." ESPN then cut to a live play with Kolber saying, "Hold it a second, Joe."

HISTORIQUE DU SUPER BOWL
