Jim Brown
By: Justin R.
Jim Brown was born on February 17, 1936 on St. Thomas Island in Georgia. His father, Swinton Brown, was a football player. When Jim was young, his mother got a job cleaning houses so Jim and his mother moved to New York. Then in 1951 Jim enrolled at Manhasset High School where he then became a star athlete. There he earned all-state honors in football, basketball, and track.
After high school in 1953, he started his freshmen year at Syracuse University. There he became an all-star lacrosse player and was inducted into the Lacrosse Hall of Fame. After college in 1957, the Cleveland Browns drafted Jim as a fullback. Jim had a great first season leading the league in rushing yards and rushing touchdowns.
In 1958 Jim married Sue Jones and they soon had twins, Kim and Kevin. They later had another son named Jim Jr. Jim still continued to play professional football for nine more great seasons, winning the NFL championship in 1964 and receiving the Joe Thorpe trophy in 1965. Then in 1966 Jim announced his retirement from professional football to start his acting career. His acting career lasted for about 11 years. During this time in 1971 Jim was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
A couple of years later Jim was surprised to find that he had been voted Grand Marshall of Super Bowl XVI. Then in 1990 Jim started the Amer-I-Can program. That program was a life management course for prison inmates and young black youths. Jim received recognition for this program and in 1992 was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Rebuild LA project. Jim has since been involved in this program since 1992 till the present.

(Photo courtesty of the Peoria Pirates) Former NFL punter signs to play in Peoria
February 1, 2004 By DAVE EMINIAN of the Peoria Journal Star http://www.pjstar.com/sports/pirates/b2247t55082.html PEORIA - Louie Aguiar wanted to play football again, just for kicks. So the 10-year NFL veteran punter, kickoff man and holder stunned the af2 Saturday when he signed a contract to play for the Peoria Pirates in 2004, making him the biggest catch in the fifth-year league's history. The 6-foot-3, 225-pound Aguiar, from Livermore, Calif., played for the Jets from 1991-93, then moved on to a five-year stint with Kansas City, where he earned second-team All-Pro honors from The Associated Press for his 43.8 yards punting average in 1995. He went on to kick for Green Bay (1999) and Chicago (2000). His career included 758 punts (201 inside the opponent's 20) and only one blocked.

Wireless Jim Grobe Position: Head Coach Jim Grobe, who orchestrated one of the greatest turnarounds in Wake Forest football history while laying the foundation for future gridiron success, guided the Demon Deacons to a postseason bowl victory in his second season as WFU's head coach. Grobe owns a 13-11 record after two years at Wake Forest, 46-44-1 in eight overall seasons as a head coach. Before Grobe arrived at WFU, the Demon Deacons went a combined 26-63 in the eight previous seasons. Grobe inherited a young Wake Forest team that went 2-9 in 2000 and guided it to a 6-5 record in 2001. The Deacons won road games at East Carolina, Duke, Virginia and North Carolina en route to posting WFU's second winning season since 1992. The win over Virginia, Grobe's alma mater, was Wake Forest's first over the Cavaliers since 1983. The 32-31 win at North Carolina came after the Deacons trailed the Tar Heels 24-0 at halftime. A win over Northern Illinois in the 2001 season finale secured the winning season and made Wake Forest eligible for a bowl berth. Grobe became just the eighth rookie head coach to produce a winning season in his first year.

NFLPLAYERS.COM It was a long, long wait but former defensive end Carl Eller finally got the call from the Pro Football Hall of Fame welcoming him to one of the most prestigious clubs in all of sports. Eller, who was known as "Moose" to his teammates from 1964-1978, will be inducted and immortalized in a July ceremony at the Canton, Ohio landmark and he couldn't be happier about it. "It's a great honor and it's been a great ride," Eller said of the whirlwind that swept him up following the announcement of his selection in early February. "I'm probably not back down on the ground yet. This is a tremendous honor." "It's a great honor and it's been a great ride. I'm probably not back down on the ground yet."
