Manley, a former player for the Washington Redskins, held several records for that team including most total sacks, and the record for the most sacks in a single season. The annual event was created to support a special fund for students who are injured as a result of accidents, and pass tribute to one of the Rebels' most outstanding defensive backs, Chucky Mullins, who died two years after sustaining paralyzing neck injuries during the 1989 Ole Miss-Vanderbilt football game. This year's banquet is sponsored by the Alpha Tau Omega and Phi Beta Sigma fraternities. The recipient of the Chucky Mullins Courage Award will receive a plaque and the honor of wearing Mullins' No. 38 on his jersey. Past recipients include Alundis Brice (1994) and Derek Jones (1996).
